Hull City are pushing for a top-half finish in the Championship in 2025/26 after a bitterly disappointing season last time out.
The Tigers shockingly sacked Ruben Selles in May, despite the Spaniard keeping the club in the second tier and now Sergej Jakirovic will be hoping to use his Champions League pedigree to inspire the team.
Selles was surprised about his sacking, but both parties have now moved on. Hull’s Eliot Matazo is coming back to full fitness after a difficult campaign in which he struggled with injury.
However, the Humberside outfit are now closing in on their statement signing of the summer and a deal could be completed soon

Hull City close in on Louie Barry deal
Louie Barry joined Hull on loan back in the January transfer window, but he suffered a season-ending injury very early on into his stay.

It emerged at the end of last week that Aston Villa are prepared to sell Barry, with the Tigers leading the chase for the forward.
Now, it has been reported by Charlie Haffenden that the 22-year-old is set to return to the MKM Stadium and a deal could be sorted as early as today (30 June).
Birmingham City had also shown an interest, but negotiations are now ‘advanced’ between Aston Villa and Hull.

Louie Barry will feel he has a point to prove
After missing out on making his mark in the Championship, there is no denying that Barry will be keen to prove himself once he makes the permanent move.
Hull will head into the new campaign as an unknown quantity, having found it tough to find consistency throughout 2024/25 due to injuries and a poor start.

But the ex-Stockport County man showed during his time at Edgeley Park that he is more than good enough to play at this level. However, goals and assists will be what he is judged on and the young attacker will have to be on it from his first day.
