Hull City to lose ‘Premier League’ talent to MLS giants, he was Ruben Selles’ top target at Sheffield United

One Hull City star, who was liked by Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles, is set for a move across the Atlantic.

Hull City are set for a difficult 2025/26 Championship campaign, for which they are having to prepare amid a fee restriction.

There has been an emphasis on Hull City generating funds this summer and replacing such players with free agents.

Former Sheffield Wednesday man Akin Famewo looks set to join Hull City, whilst they continue to monitor free and loan options to bolster Sergej Jakirovic’s frontline.

Some departures at the MKM Stadium will be welcomed by Hull City fans; however, their most recent will not go down well.

Hull City star Steven Alzate set for MLS move as Sheffield United miss out

As reported by Hull Live, Hull City are set to lose Colombian midfielder Steven Alzate this summer, with a move to MLS club Atlanta United being discussed.

It is expected that Alzate will be handed a move away this summer after playing no role in Hull City’s pre-season matches.

EFL Analysis exclusively revealed that Alzate and centre-back Charlie Hughes from Hull City would be of interest to Selles at Sheffield United, however, they now look set to miss out on the Colombian.

It is expected that Alzate will join the MLS side on a three-and-a-half-year deal despite interest from Sheffield United, as well as Spanish side Valencia.

Ruben Selles will be gutted to lose out on Steven Alzate

In Ruben Selles’ short spell at Hull City, he took a shine to many of the players, including Steven Alzate.

When he was utilised in the Tigers’ midfield, Alzate showed shades of a ‘Premier League player’, showing vast composure and brilliant technical ability in the centre of the park.

He would have been a solid, yet cheap replacement for Gus Hamer, who looks likely to move on from Sheffield United this summer, meaning that Selles and the Blades board will now have to look elsewhere.

As for Hull City, they will be gutted to lose Alzate this summer, although it felt as though the writing was on the wall regarding his future at the club. Hopefully, Acun Ilicali can negotiate a respectable fee for the player who arrived at the MKM Stadium on a free transfer in September.
