Hull City’s pursuit of Champions League talent suffers unsurpassable problem

Hull City will be aiming to secure their first win of the season when they return to the MKM Stadium on Sunday afternoon to face Oxford United.

Sergej Jakirovic’s team will take positives from their opening Championship fixture away at Coventry City, as they held Frank Lampard’s side to a 0-0 draw, a great result considering the Sky Blues are considered one of the favourites for promotion this campaign while Hull City are expected to have a battle to remain in the division.

However, the Tigers will be disappointed in the manner of their defeat to Wrexham in the Carabao Cup during the week, which saw them eliminated from the competition.

Sergej Jakirovic knows his side have to learn from the defeat, and he will be hoping that they can show some improvements when they face the U’s in just a few days’ time.

Nevertheless, with Hull still under a three-window transfer fee ban, signing new players has been difficult this summer and they are set to lose out on a Manchester United youngster due to this embargo.

Hull City will not be signing striker Cherif Ndiaye

The Tigers will have to go without signing Cherif Ndiaye this summer, for the same reason they lost the race to sign Toby Collyer, the transfer embargo.

It has been reported in Hull Live that despite the Senegalese international being keen on a move to the MKM Stadium Hull are not in a position to strike a deal with Belgrade for the frontman, who is valued in excess of £6m.

The Tigers are still working under the EFL’s transfer fee ban, meaning they cannot pay a permanent or loan fee for any player until January 2027.

Hull City are said to be firm admirers of the striker, keeping tabs on him over the past few months, impressed by his record of 18 goals and five assists in 24 Super Liga outings for the Red Star Belgrade star.

Cherif Ndiaye is set to move to the United Arab Emirates

According to reports from Serbian publication Max Sports, scouts representing Hull City were in attendance as Ndiaye scored from the penalty spot during Red Star Belgrade’s 1-1 draw with Lech Poznan in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League qualifier.

However, Mozzart Sport claim that Al Jazira, a club based in the United Arab Emirates, have agreed a fee worth £7 million.

Should this report of a verbal agreement between Al Jazira and Red Star Belgrade about a deal for Cherif Ndiaye be true, it will be a blow for Hull City as they seek to strengthen their attacking options.

Hull are looking to have the current transfer embargo lifted from the club; however, it is unlikely the striker will wait for this with offers from other clubs and the potential to continue playing Champions League football with the Serbian club.
