Ipswich Town and Coventry City to battle for £3m Danish starlet who scored 11 goals last season

You’d be hard-pressed to find a team in the Championship that wasn’t looking for an injection of goals for the new season, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that both Ipswich Town and Coventry City have earmarked an up-and-coming Danish star to boost their ranks.

Both clubs are tipped to be major players in the promotion race this season, with Ipswich Town dropping down from the Premier League after a valiant effort to stay up, and Coventry City missing out on promotion last season via the play-offs.

The Tractor Boys lost Liam Delap early in the transfer window, but the arrival of Chuba Akpom will certainly give Kieran McKenna’s side an advantage in attacking areas in 2025/26.

Meanwhile, Frank Lampard has so far been able to keep his Coventry squad intact, and after firing five goals past Derby County at the weekend, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Sky Blues don’t need any more attackers.

William Boving has strong interest from Coventry City and Ipswich Town

However, thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that both Ipswich and Coventry are two of the clubs looking at making a move for William Boving before deadline day.

The Danish Under-21 international featured in this summer’s European Championship for his country’s youth team, but it is his club form with Sturm Graz that has caught the eye.

Boving registered 21 goal contributions in 2024/25 for the Austrian outfit, including 11 goals in 42 matches.

The 22-year-old is seen as a number 10 first and foremost, but has played out wide and in the central striker role over the last year.

Boving is rated very highly across Europe, with a number of clubs showing an interest in securing his services this summer.

However, we now understand that Ipswich and Coventry are making the most noise regarding his signing, and it is thought a fee of around £3m could be enough for one of the Championship outfits to land the young attacker.

William Boving was on fire in 2024/25

Boving was a real breakout star for Sturm Graz last season, with all 11 of his goals and eight of his assists coming in the Austrian Bundesliga. He also featured eight times in the Champions League, where he added another two assists.

He also scored in Denmark’s opening game of the Under-21 Championships in June but was unable to steer his team beyond the quarter-finals there.

Boving left his homeland in 2022, departing FC Copenhagen for roughly £1.89m. The versatile attacker has scored goals everywhere he’s played, though, with 24 goals for Copenhagen’s youth team, five for their senior squad, and another ten for Sturm Graz in 2023/24, too.
