EFL Analysis can confirm that Sunderland are set to send a highly-rated young talent out on loan as League One and League Two clubs circle.
Sunderland won the Championship play-off final back in May, sending the Black Cats back to the Premier League with a 2-1 comeback win over Sheffield United.
Tommy Watson ended his Sunderland story in style with a 94th-minute winner past Blades goalkeeper Michael Cooper, which has changed the club’s fortunes dramatically.
Enzo Le Fee became Sunderland’s first summer signing after his loan stint from Roma was made permanent as a result of promotion, but the Black Cats hierarchy did not stop with the Frenchman.
Sunderland have spent around £150m on several marquee signings, with the likes of Arsenal icon Granit Xhaka and ex-Strasbourg starlet Habib Diarra making moves to Wearside.
Consequential to the Black Cats’ promotion under Regis Le Bris, several Sunderland stars are set to leave this summer, either permanently or on loan, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal the next destination for one highly-rated talent.

League One and League Two clubs eye Sunderland’s Trey Ogunsuyi
EFL Analysis exclusively revealed in July that EFL clubs want Jenson Jones on loan from Sunderland after his impressive pre-season under Le Bris.
Aside from Jones, Matty Young has returned on loan to Salford City for the 2025/26 season, and Young has admitted he is “on a high” at the Ammies after registering his first clean sheet of the season in Salford’s third consecutive win.
One of Jones and Young’s fellow Sunderland youngsters, Trey Ogunsuyi, is also attracting loan attention from EFL outfits.
After joining Sunderland aged 10, 18-year-old Ogunsuyi was granted his competitive debut for the Black Cats by Le Bris last season in the FA Cup defeat to Stoke City.
The Belgium youth international impressed during pre-season for Sunderland and was recently rewarded with a new contract, committing his future on Wearside until 2028.
EFL Analysis can now confirm, thanks to information from our Chief Football correspondent Graeme Bailey, that there are “options in League One and League Two” for Ogunsuyi to join on loan from Sunderland this season.
Bailey said: “They’re looking at which clubs are best suited for him. There is a lot of interest in him.
“He’s just signed his new deal at Sunderland, but there are a host of clubs who will take him on loan.
“Now it’s a case of Sunderland sitting down with the player and his family to work out which club would be best suited.
“There are options in League One and League Two. Obviously, part of the discussion is, do you drop to League Two, where you probably have got more chance of regular football, or do you go with a higher level team with what should be better managers and facilities?”
Ogunsuyi scored a stunning hat-trick against Spurs’ youngsters on Monday evening in a 5-3 defeat for Sunderland’s academy in the Premier League 2 affair.
After the game, Ogunsuyi told the Sunderland Echo that his “goal is to play more men’s football”, with the youngster making clear his ambitions to develop away from Wearside before attempting to “break into the first team”.

Regis Le Bris tips Sunderland ace Trey Ogunsuyi for big future
With Sunderland making a raft of marquee signings, Ogunsuyi will find first-team minutes under Le Bris extremely hard to come by this season, but the Black Cats are intent on protecting themselves regarding the centre-forward prospect.
Since making his debut for Sunderland’s under-18s side, Ogunsuyi has scored 15 goals in just 20 outings across the Black Cats’ youth teams last season.
Last season, Le Bris tipped the Sunderland starlet with “many qualities” to have a big future in football after he promoted him to the first-team squad for their trip to Plymouth Argyle.
As quoted by the Northern Echo, Le Bris said of Ogunsuyi: “It was a great opportunity for him (to be in the squad).
“At the minute, he is still a young player who needs to discover more about our environment and the experience of being with professional players.
“Especially for an away game, it was a very interesting opportunity for him (to experience being in the squad).
“He needs time to develop, for sure. But he has many qualities, and he is a very interesting player for the future.”
