EFL Analysis have gained an insight into Middlesbrough’s summer transfer plans after Michael Carrick’s dismissal.
After nearly a month of uncertainty around his future, Michael Carrick left Middlesbrough on Wednesday.
The former midfielder was unable to achieve the ultimate goal of returning Boro to the Premier League, making the play-offs in one of his three seasons in charge.
Who will replace Carrick in the dugout remains to be seen, but the likes of Danny Rohl and Rob Edwards have been linked.
Now, EFL Analysis have learned how Carrick’s dismissal will impact transfer plans and what Middlesbrough are looking to do in the market.

Middlesbrough targeting multiple areas in the summer transfer window
We have spoken exclusively to our resident transfer expert, Graeme Bailey.
When asked how Carrick leaving would impact Boro’s transfer plans, he told us: “It doesn’t really get delayed with Carrick being sacked.
“No, with Boro it doesn’t because Kieran Scott is running things there in terms of recruitment, as with a lot of clubs. When it comes to signing someone, it’s more the director of football. It’s only the manager when it comes to keeping players.”
On what Boro want to do this summer, Bailey continued: “So Josh Coburn’s future, for instance, might be more dependent on the new manager. But no, they’re looking. They want and are desperate for a right back.
“Midfield would be dependent on Hayden Hackney staying or going, and they want another striker.
“There’s a good four or five positions Boro need and they are working on those as we speak, even as we say without a new manager in place.”

Players Middlesbrough are linked with
We learned last month that Luke Ayling could leave Middlesbrough this summer, which would leave the Teessiders without a senior, natural right-back.
Plymouth Argyle defender Bali Mumba is a player that Boro like after looking at him in January.
Elsewhere, Tyrhys Dolan is of interest to Middlesbrough, with his Blackburn Rovers contract running out at the end of this month.
