EFL Analysis can now share an update on Middlesbrough’s plans to improve their striker ranks this summer.

Boro lost Emmanuel Latte Lath in the 2025 winter transfer, selling the forward for a record £22.5m fee.

Kelechi Iheanacho arrived on loan earlier this year but has now returned to Sevilla.

Josh Coburn has been sold to Millwall as well, leaving Tommy Conway as Middlesbrough’s only natural, senior number nine going into next season.

But the Teessiders are working on deals for centre-forwards, and we now have an exclusive update.

David Strelec and Danny Ings updates as Middlesbrough eye strikers

We revealed earlier this month that Middlesbrough were in talks with Danny Ings over a transfer.

The free agent wanted to continue playing Premier League football after leaving the Hammers and also had interest from the MLS.

Meanwhile, David Strelec is a player the North East outfit have been linked with for some time.

Now, after speaking to our transfer correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis understands that Middlesbrough are working hard on striker targets, and it’s expected that two will come in.

Strelec is a player they admire, and a transfer for the forward shouldn’t be ruled out.

As for Ings, talks are still ongoing and Boro do want him, but it depends on the deal they come up with.

David Strelec and Danny Ings stats vs Tommy Conway

After Latte Lath left, Conway spent the remainder of the season leading the line for Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old ended 2024/25 with 13 Championship goals in 36 outings.

As for Strelec, he has three goals in two Champions League qualifying matches this season and scored 25 in 48 last term.

Ings struggled for game time in the most recent campaign, netting one in 15 Premier League matches for West Ham.
