Middlesbrough fans have been reacting to the club’s first piece of transfer business under new manager Rob Edwards.

Rob Edwards became Middlesbrough manager in June, replacing Michael Carrick after three seasons at the helm.

Edwards sent a message after he returned to management following his Luton Town exit early in 2025.

Plenty of changes are expected at the Riverside Stadium under the new boss this summer, with Josh Cobrun leaving Boro for Millwall already.

Elsewhere, we revealed earlier this week that Hayden Hackney has changed agents as he prepares to depart the Teessiders in the current transfer window.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have now completed their first bit of transfer business this summer.

Middlesbrough fans react to Owen Foster signing

Boro confirmed this week that they have signed goalkeeper Owen Foster to a one-year contract.

The player arrives from fellow Championship side Hull City and is set to link up with the club’s U21 side.

Fans have since taken to social media to react to the news, with their verdicts mixed.

One fan wrote: “A man who has been a back up keeper in non league for his whole career. Brilliant business.”

Another, pretty sarcastically, commented: “May as well announce promotion now.”

A third more positively wrote: “Called on at a very young age for us at Scunny and did a solid job in very difficult circumstances. Showed a lot of promise. Definitely one for the future.”

“Who is that,” another Middlesbrough fan simply asked.

Owen Foster stats

Foster began his senior career with Scunthorpe United before joining Hull in 2023.

During his time with the Tigers he had temporary spells with Chorley, Hartlepool United and Torquay United.

However, he did not make a senior appearance for any of those sides while out on loan.

Foster’s only senior action to date has come with Scunthorpe, for whom he made 13 appearances, conceded 23 and kept four clean sheets.
