It’s not been the summer that Middlesbrough supporters would have hoped for.
The Teessiders have made just one signing so far in the transfer window, with Alfie Jones joining the club from Hull City.
Meanwhile, Josh Coburn has left for Millwall and Anfernee Dijksteel has joined Turkish outfit Kocaelispor after his contract at the Riverside Stadium expired.
Nevertheless, there is slightly more positive news around the corner for Middlesbrough as Rob Edwards is closing in on his second signing of the summer and there is a fresh update on Hayden Hackney’s future.
Middlesbrough edge closer to Abdoulaye Kante signing
After missing out on the play-offs on the final day of the season, Michael Carrick was sacked by Boro. However, there has been very little change in squad personnel since that day and supporters will be getting tense.

But, Middlesbrough are now set to sign Troyes midfielder Abdoulaye Kante for a fee that the Northern Echo have reported to be around the €3m (£2.6m) mark, and the 20-year-old is now in England for a medical.
He made 29 appearances in Ligue 2 for the French outfit last season, registering two assists from defensive midfield – a position in which Boro may find themselves lacking depth.
Kante will be hoping to hit the ground running at the Riverside, but for Edwards, focus now returns to Hackney and the Teessiders’ attempts to keep him at the club.

Ipswich Town will have to return with an improved offer for Hayden Hackney
The talented midfielder has been the subject of interest from Ipswich Town throughout this summer, and over the weekend it was reported that the Tractor Boys made a £20m bid for Hackney.
However, the Northern Echo has explained that the Suffolk side’s offer did not match the valuation that Middlesbrough have of him and it was rejected.

Therefore, Ipswich will now have to return with an improved offer for the 23-year-old, with Edwards doing all he can to ensure that he does not lose such a key squad member.
Nevertheless, there will be a price that is too much to turn down and Middlesbrough’s resolve will be tested in the coming weeks before the transfer window slams shut.
