EFL Analysis has gained an insight into the future of Middlesbrough defender Rav van den Berg following his recent comments.

Rav van den Berg arrived on Teesside from Dutch outfit PEC Zwolle in the summer of 2023.

The centre-back, who was still a teenager at the time, had a superb debut campaign at the Riverside Stadium.

Van den Berg picked up the Middlesbrough Player of the Season award after excelling in various roles across the backline.

His 2024/25 was less fruitful due to persistent injury issues, limiting him to just 27 Championship appearances.

Now, while away on international duty this week, Van den Berg has discussed transfer interest, confirming his agent has been in touch to inform him that at least one club are ‘very serious’ about a move.

Rav van den Berg could leave Middlesbrough

EFL Analysis has now spoken exclusively to transfer expert Graeme Bailey for an insight into the future of the Middlesbrough stopper.

He told us: “It is most likely he will head to the Bundesliga this summer. He had a dip last season, but again, I would surmise that it was down to how much pressure he’s put under at Boro.

“They have plenty of sellable assets, and I do think he might be more likely to stay than Hayden Hackney, but I’d say he probably will go as well. Rav van den Berg was ultimately signed to sell, really, and that’s just how a lot of Championship clubs work.

“While there’s a fair chance he ends up in the Bundesliga, we know there is Premier League interest. Brentford like him; could he team up with his brother there? I wouldn’t rule it out.

“He’s playing at the U21 Euros, and Middlesbrough are probably hoping — if they’re wanting to get a good price for him — that he has a good tournament.”

Kieran Scott predicted Rav van den Berg Middlesbrough exit

After his starring debut season at the Riverside, Van den Berg had Premier League suitors last summer, including Fulham.

Speaking in July 2024, club chief Kieran Scott admitted, as per the Northern Echo, that Rav could well depart this summer if Boro failed to go up, which they did.

He said: “Rav is really happy. I think Rav stays another year minimum.

“If he has another season where he’s fantastic and we go up, I think he stays again. If he has a great season and we don’t then we might have a problem. But he’s part of it. He’s a smart boy, a bright kid.”
