Middlesbrough have been dealt a transfer blow going into the 2025/26 Championship season.
After a slow start to the window, Boro’s transfer business has picked up in the last week or so.
Former Hull City player Alfie Jones was the Teessiders’ first signing of the transfer window.
He was followed through the door by Abdoulaye Kante, while Middlesbrough have won the race for Callum Brittain.
But there is one position Boro are yet to strengthen this summer, being dealt a blow on that front over the weekend.

Middlesbrough set to miss out on striker
With Emmanuel Latte Lath sold in the winter window and Josh Coburn leaving for Millwall, Tommy Conway is the club’s only out-and-out number nine at present.
Marcus Forss and Delano Burgzorg can be used up front, but Rob Edwards wants more firepower up top.
As we previously confirmed at the beginning of July, Middlesbrough held transfer interest in Pavel Sulc.
But as Graeme Bailey explained, it was expected that the centre-forward would end up securing a top flight move.
He said last month: “There’s Pavel Sulc who is a hugely talented player. Boro do like him and have watched him closely, but the issue with him is potentially he’s just too good and he’s probably going to go to a top-flight side somewhere. That’s the worry.”
It’s now been reported by Fabrizio Romano that Sulc is set to sign for Lyon in a deal worth around £7m.
Rob Edwards’ Middlesbrough striker hope
While Boro won’t be signing Sulc, there are still plans in place to improve the front line.
We reported earlier this week that Middlesbrough are expected to sign two strikers in the current window.
David Strelec is a player whom Middlesbrough admire, while talks for Danny Ings remain ongoing after his West Ham United exit.
Boro kick off their Championship season on August 9, with Conway expected to be leading the line.
