Nathan Jones says he is ‘delighted’ to add goal-scoring ‘pedigree’ with this Charlton Athletic signing

Charlton Athletic and Nathan Jones have been busy this summer to prove all the predictions wrong that expect them to be one of the favourites to be relegated.

Charlton triumphed in the League One play-offs last season thanks to a resilient defence and some gritty displays from Nathan Jones’ side.

Immediately after their promotion to the second tier, given their lack of quality at the start of the summer, people expected them to finish rock bottom in the Championship for 2025/26.

However, recent signings like Charlie Kelman have raised the bar, and now, Jones has a real fighting chance of keeping the Addicks in the division, and now they have made another shrewd signing that will bring goalscoring ‘pedigree’ to the squad.

Charlton have secured the signing of Harvey Knibbs

The Addicks have brought in their ninth summer signing in this transfer window as they look to ensure they have the quality to remain in the Championship.

Harvey Knibbs opted to join Charlton despite interest from a number of Championship sides, with the deal looking like it had fallen through less than 24 hours before.

The creative midfielder has joined from Reading, scoring a total of 32 goals and providing 12 assists in the last two seasons at the Royals, with 14 of those finishes coming in the last campaign.

This clinical touch and the ability to create will be crucial if Charlton are to survive this season; however, it will not just be on his shoulders after the club acquired Joe Rankin-Costello and Rob Apter to create opportunities too.

Nathan Jones on his latest signing

The Charlton manager, Jones had been the subject of interest from Cardiff City at the start of the summer, but he opted to stay in London and fight with the club in the Championship.

It would have been expected he was given promises that he would be backed in the summer, and Charlton have done just that with the nine signings.

Jones has spoken about the latest deal, as he told the club website that he is delighted to have secured the transfer.

He said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to get the signing of Harvey over the line. We wanted to add goals to us over the summer, and Harvey is a key player we earmarked a long time ago. He’s a goal-scoring midfielder who is a consistent performer. He has good pedigree, he’s athletic, he scores goals, and he’s young enough that he will continue to improve.”
