Norwich City have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer.

It’s an exciting time to be a Canaries supporter, with Liam Manning making moves ahead of the first Championship fixtures of the season in just over two weeks’ time.

Borja Sainz has already left for Porto, while Wolfsburg are closing in on Josh Sargent and bringing in more firepower up top has been one of the greatest desires for the Norfolk outfit in recent weeks.

However, defensively, Norwich struggled last season. Therefore, it is imperative that they strengthen at the back and they may have found the perfect fit at left-back.

Norwich City show interest in Jamal Lewis return

Jamal Lewis left the Canaries in 2020, joining Newcastle United as his former side were relegated back to the Championship.

He was an integral part of the Magpies’ squad in his first year at the club, but his importance soon diminished and he has spent time on loan at Watford and Brazilian club São Paulo recently.

However, according to the Belfast Telegraph, Norwich are one of three Championship sides chasing a deal for the left-back.

Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion are also keen on Lewis, but after playing 100 times for the Canaries previously, they will be hoping that they can entice the Northern Ireland international back to Carrow Road after his Newcastle contract expired at the end of June.

Jamal Lewis’ experience makes him the perfect signing for Liam Manning

While the last couple of years have not been exactly what Lewis would have wanted, he still has the quality and experience to be a good option in the Championship.

He is also only 27, and there is plenty of time left in his career to get his confidence back to where it was and the full-back will be keen to re-establish himself in the EFL and beyond in the years to come.

Lewis may not be a starter if he does return to Norwich this summer, but Manning can be the perfect mentor for him in 2025/26, while also offering the team more depth in a position in which they lack quality.
