Oxford United have been busy in the transfer window ahead of the 2025/26 season as they prepare for their second consecutive campaign in the Championship.
Gary Rowett is attempting to be smart in how he goes about acquiring talent for the club, knowing that Oxford United are not one of the financial behemoths of the Championship.
The ambition for the club once again will be to remain in the division, hoping they don’t get dragged into a relegation dogfight.
Upon their promotion to the Championship last season, they did splash the cash on a few signings, with three of their five most expensive signings being bought in the last campaign.
EFL Analysis brings you the five most expensive signings Oxford United have acquired.
Oxford United’s five most expensive signings
5. Jack Currie – £458,000
The left back joined the club in July 2024, signing from Wimbledon, as he had impressed in League Two.
Jack Currie may be one of the club’s most expensive signings, but he is actually yet to play a match for Oxford, as he was loaned out to Leyton Orient in the same transfer window.
Currie had a good season on loan and will be hopeful this could help him ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 Championship season.
4. Dean Windass – £605,000
Oxford signed Dean Windass from Aberdeen, bringing him back to the EFL after he moved to Scotland from Hull City three seasons prior.
Windass would only have nine months at Oxford, as he scored 18 goals in 38 matches, but he was unable to help them stave off relegation.

He left the club in the middle of the season at Oxford to join Bradford City as the Bantams were building towards becoming a Premier League side.
Oxford made a profit on Windass, as they sold him for £950,000 to Bradford, and he would spend two seasons in the Premier League with the club.
3. Marvin Johnson – £658,000
Another player on the list that joined Oxford United from a Scottish club for a fee that was a record at the time.
Marvin Johnson spent only one full season with Oxford before being signed by Middlesbrough for a fee of around £2.5 million.

Johnson impressed during his time with Oxford in the 2016-17 season, making a total of 55 appearances and being crucial in their League Trophy journey before they lost to Coventry City in the final.
2. Peter Kioso – £710,000
The DR Congo international joined the club last season from Rotherham United, as he struggled to get first-team minutes for the Yorkshire club.
Kioso has always demonstrated that he is a reliable defender for any side he has played for across the Championship and League One.
He had a steady season in the yellow of Oxford United as he featured in 33 matches across all competitions.
1. Ole Romeny – £1.7 million
The only player on the list to have cost more than £1 million, as Oxford decided to splash the cash on the Indonesian international.
Ole Romeny will be able to guide his teammates around the country he represents during the 2025 pre-season as Oxford are touring Indonesia.

Romeny joined Oxford in January 2025, as he joined from Utrecht, with the striker failing to light it up so far in front of goal, scoring just one goal in his 14 appearances in the Championship.
Fans will hope he can find form this season after the club spent a sizeable amount of their budget on the striker to help them remain in the division.
