Despite interest from the likes of Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient, we can exclusively reveal that a top Jamaican talent has chosen to move to Scotland.

The summer transfer window closes (briefly) tomorrow, before reopening on the 16th June until September, and clubs are already doing a fair bit of business.

For the likes of Plymouth Argyle, it’s a case of regrouping after relegation from the Championship, while Leyton Orient are still reeling from losing the League One play-off final last month.

Now, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that both clubs, plus a number of others in the Football League, have been rejected by Jamaican star Richard King.

Richard King chooses St. Mirren over EFL clubs

Thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, we understand that St. Mirren have beaten lots of clubs to the signing of King.

The 23-year-old Jamaican international will now move to Scotland after St. Mirren agreed a deal with his club Cavalier for what we are told is a nominal fee.

In terms of the clubs that have been left disappointed by King’s decision, we can reveal that the likes of Plymouth, Peterborough, Leyton Orient, Bristol Rovers, and Barnet are among those to have shown an interest in landing the highly-rated central defender.

We understand highly respected talent spotter and agent Tony Finnigan of Players’ Lounge is the one to have brought the player to the UK after spotting him in Jamaica.

Finnigan, who discovered the likes of Yannick Bolasie and Albert Adomah, has overseen his move to Scotland. It is said all parties believe a move to Scotland is currently King’s “best option.”

Richard King’s career to date

Richard King has gone under the radar so far in his brief career, turning out for Cavalier in his native Jamaica and making 68 appearances for the club.

He has also spent a season on loan in Iceland with IBV, where he made 17 appearances and scored two goals.

All the while, he’s already collected 26 caps for his country since making his debut in 2022. King is now looking to cement his place in Steve McClaren’s Jamaica squad ahead of the World Cup next year.
