Salford City are keen to sign one Premier League youngster who has already caught the eye in the EFL.

In May, Gary Neville and David Beckham acquired Salford City, with the Man United legends heading a consortium with vast ambitions for the League Two club.

Following their rise through non-league, Salford City have surprisingly remained in League Two for some time, cementing their place as EFL regulars, although the next step for the club is certainly promotion to League One.

There is a new lease of life for the club under the stewardship of both Neville and Beckham, with the pair ultimately bringing extra eyes to the football club.

Signs of intent are already being shown by Salford City this summer, with them now looking likely to sign one Premier League goalkeeper on loan ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Salford City keen to reunite with Sunderland ace Matty Young this summer

According to a report from Alan Nixon via Patreon, Salford City are keen to bring Matty Young back to the club for a second season, with a decision set to take place from the Sunderland youngster this week.

Sunderland are reportedly willing to let the 2006-born shot-stopper leave on loan in order to accumulate more experience in the EFL.

Whilst Young’s game time was somewhat infrequent for Karl Robinson’s side last season, the goalkeeper shone when called upon, notching an incredible six consecutive clean sheets at one stage, and conceding just 18 in 20 appearances.

Salford manager Karl Robinson already knows what Matty Young can offer

With Sunderland showing a willingness to let Matty Young return to Salford City, there will surely be an expectation that he will be offered more game time in the upcoming campaign.

Going in between the sticks for half of the season’s games, Young proved that he can shine at League Two level, and could be an integral part of David Beckham and Gary Neville’s promotion-hunting Salford.

To make things sweeter, Salford City boss Karl Robinson already knows the quality that Young brings to the squad and the difference he can make.

Robinson told ChronicleLive in January: “His maturity, he’s just way above people of that age. He’s so controlling in his processes and the direction he wants to go in. Jordan (Pickford) is very similar, I think the way he’s brought up playing at Sunderland has massively had an influence. And Young is no different to that.”
