What Ruben Selles once said about Louie Barry as he nears Sheffield United move, ‘I know’…

Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles highly rates Louie Barry after the pair spent time at Hull City last season.

Sheffield United are closing in on a deal to sign Louie Barry ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season.

With departures expected at Bramall Lane this summer, with Sheffield United star Gus Hamer attracting interest from PSV, new boss Ruben Selles will need to be backed by COH Sports.

The Blades’ coach, Selles, has a clear vision of the squad he wishes to build at Sheffield United, having shown a desire to reunite with former players. Sheffield United have already signed Tyler Bindon on loan, a defender who Selles rates from his time at Reading.

Now, Selles’ next acquisition looks set to be Louie Barry, a player whom Selles has already shown vast praise for.

What Ruben Selles said about Louie Barry at Hull City

Louie Barry joined Hull City on loan from Aston Villa halfway through the 2024/25 Championship season, with the Tigers being keen to add goalscoring firepower to their ranks.

Unfortunately, it did not work out for the youngster who had shown vast quality in League One with Stockport County, after he suffered a season-ending injury in an away win against Sunderland.

Despite his lack of game time with the Tigers, Ruben Selles was fully aware of his quality after he notched his full debut against Norwich City.

Speaking to Hull Daily Mail, Selles said: “He did really well, especially in the first half.

“After 45 to 50 minutes of his performance, his physical levels dropped, and we cannot allow the team to have a player drop those physical levels, so he will be fine. He will continue evolving, and I think he did a good performance.

“He’s always a threat when he has the ball, and hopefully, that performance will transform into assists and goals, and he will be as good as any other in the league.

“I expected it to take relative time, so I didn’t expect him to arrive and immediately smash the league. I know he’s a really good player.

“There’s going to be a moment when he’s going to get that movement right, and he’s going to get that finishing right, and that is going to unlock something. It always goes like that, but to arrive at that point, you sometimes need to suffer a little bit, and I think he will be fine, and he will be important for us.”

Incoming Sheffield United signing Louie Barry will want to live up to Ruben Selles’ praise

Ruben Selles is a huge fan of Louie Barry, despite seeing very little from the attacker. After such words of praise, the incoming Sheffield United man will be keen to repay the Portuguese man.

Sheffield United will be keen to add an assured goalscoring threat to their side, especially after Tom Cannon didn’t quite hit the heights that were expected of him in the second half of last season.

If Barry can return to the consistent levels he was showing at Stockport County in both League One and Two, Sheffield United may have found themselves an incredible coup that may transform Selles’ attacking line-up.
