Sheffield United should go all in on one of the ‘best young talents’, he would thrive under Ruben Selles

As part of Sheffield United’s newfound transfer tactic, it would be no surprise to see them target one young forward currently thriving in the Norwegian top tier.

Sheffield United have been fairly quiet in the summer transfer window so far, despite Ruben Selles showing a keenness to improve the squad.

Following their narrow defeat in the Championship play-off final to Sunderland, there is an expectation that several Sheffield United stars are being eyed up by clubs elsewhere.

Notably, Sheffield United star Gus Hamer is wanted elsewhere, with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven emerging as frontrunners for the midfielder’s signature.

Arrivals are needed this summer, and Sheffield United have adopted an AI-assisted approach, which has led to the Blades uncovering some hidden gems from the likes of Bulgaria.

With their current approach, it would make sense if they soon cross paths with one player currently shining for Tromso, the most northern professional football club in the world.

Sheffield United should target Runar Norheim from Tromso

Sheffield United have already shown that one of their priorities is building for the future under the new ownership, with the deals to sign Ehije Ukaki this summer, as well as Jefferson Caceres and Christian Nwachukwu back in January.

Such an approach could lead to Sheffield United being alerted by the performances of Runar Norheim, who, like the Blades’ previous signings, is young, ambitious, and is thriving in an obscure league.

Norheim, 20, joined the most northern professional football club in 2020 as a youth prospect, where he has since emerged as a key player for the high-flying Gutan.

The youngster struggled with injuries for two seasons, which hampered first-team opportunities, but in the 2025 campaign, Norheim has catapulted into being a notable star in the Eliteserien.

The left-sided star shone recently in a dramatic win against Stromsgodset, where he bagged two early goals, including a ferociously hit screamer. Whilst Tromso would then give away their two-goal cushion, Norheim then set up the winner for Leo Cornic.

Why Ruben Selles would love to work with Runar Norheim

Sheffield United would be taking a risk if they signed Runar Norheim this summer, but they do have the added assurance that Ruben Selles would be taking charge of a player who was once listed as one of the ‘top 60 of the best young talents in world football’, as written by The Guardian.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 Norwegian season, Norheim was described as: “A consistent year for the youngster who has stayed fit and become a regular starter in the Norwegian top flight. Also got some European experience in the Europa Conference League qualifiers.”

Since then, the 20-year-old has hit another level. It could turn out to be quite the coup for a Championship-level club to attain the services of the youngster. Unlike Sheffield United’s previous signings, Norheim has a proven quality at a higher level, which could translate into Championship football.
