In October, the footballing world was shocked by the tragic passing of George Baldock.

The former Sheffield United star had joined Greek side Panathinaikos that summer after seven years as a Blade.

His performances in red-and-white had earned him a call-up to the Greece national team in May 2022, qualifying to play for the country through his grandmother.

Baldock went on to play 12 times for the Galanolefki, and he was a key player for them over the course of the next two years. Since he passed away, there have been thousands of tributes from across the footballing world and now his former international teammates have made another.

It was an incredibly emotional game, with his teammates honouring him before the game and after. Now, the national team have agreed to donate some of their bonuses for reaching Group A of the Nations League to Baldock’s family, prompting praise from many.

Another wrote: “That’s absolutely brilliant from his national teammates. Unreal gesture from them all. George would be so thankful and proud.”

While a third put: “Awesome gesture.”

As a fourth said: “Great gesture this.”

Sheffield United will never forget their ‘star man’

Chris Wilder was a fantastic role model following the heartbreaking news last October, and he continued to honour the memory of the defender throughout the season.

Supporters also chanted his name in the play-off semi-final, as Sheffield United beat Bristol City 6-0 on aggregate over two legs.

It is clear to see that Baldock will never be forgotten by those at Bramall Lane and the Greece national team, with this latest gesture being further proof of how well loved he was by everyone he touched.
