Rangers and Wrexham will be licking their lips as Sheffield Wednesday chaos opens door for Josh Windass exit

Another day, and another moment of chaos at Sheffield Wednesday.

It’s been a calamitous summer for the Owls, and after a takeover bid collapsed on Wednesday, Danny Rohl is set to depart the club after returning on Monday to lead training.

Two of the South Yorkshire outfit’s embargos have been removed after they settled payments with HMRC, but they remain under a three-window transfer ban as they are yet to settle debts with other clubs.

However, keeping hold of key players will be difficult for Sheffield Wednesday as the situation at Hillsborough continues, and with Rohl leaving, Josh Windass may well be targeted in the coming weeks ahead of the transfer window shutting on 1 September.

Rangers and Wrexham must push for Josh Windass after Sheffield Wednesday development

Windass has previously called Rohl the best manager he’s ever worked for, and while it is completely unknown how he feels about losing his boss, clubs across the country will be taking notice of the situation.

It was previously reported that the ex-Wigan Athletic ace wants to leave Sheffield Wednesday, and Rangers and Wrexham may well pounce.

The Scottish giants have shown an interest in bringing the versatile attacker back to Ibrox, according to The Star, while Windass would be a great fit for the Red Dragons.

At 31, he still has some good years left in him and he will want stability from his next club – something that Sheffield Wednesday may not be for a while yet.

Josh Windass can offer other clubs plenty

Windass was impressive last season, and the Owls would not have had as strong a campaign as they did without him.

He scored a goal from his own half against Derby County on New Year’s Day, and it perfectly encapsulated everything that he is as a player. He puts in effort, shows initiative and can create something out of nothing.

Sheffield Wednesday will want a conclusion to their own saga quickly, but if Dejphon Chanisiri’s ownership continues, that might be the end for Windass in S6.
