Sheffield United suffered another defeat this season in the Championship, this time at the hands of Millwall, with the Lions emerging with a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane.
This leaves the Blades rooted to the bottom of the Championship table, with only Oxford United being the other club yet to win a point in the division this season.
Ruben Selles had previously ruled out the lack of signings excuse as being something he would use to defend their bad start to the campaign, believing they had to get things right with who he had at the club and then build upon it.
However, it seems that Selles and Sheffield United have acted fast following their latest defeat, realising that they will need some players in to fix their defensive problems, and they have spent heavily to do so.
Sheffield United agree deal for Japhet Tanganga
It had been known for a period of time now that Sheffield United were looking to sign the Millwall defender this summer, seeing him as part of the solution to their defensive woes.
It had been reported by Sky Sports reporter Luca Bendoni earlier in the week that Sheffield United and Millwall have ‘agreed a deal in principle’ for the centre-back, who joined The Den permanently this summer from Tottenham Hotspur, having spent the second half of the previous season at the club on loan.
There is a belief that the deal could reach the value of £10 million, with only personal terms to be agreed now between Sheffield United and Japhet Tanganga.
The Blades recently confirmed the signing of Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta for the season; this is so their defensive woes and struggles are relieved.

Japhet Tanganga on the move to Sheffield United
Sheffield United’s latest signing has already shared his thoughts about the move to the Blades with their media team, and he seems buzzing to get on the pitch under Ruben Selles.
He said: “Sheffield United is a big club with a lot of history. I am just excited to be here, and I can’t wait to get started.
“The club was so close last season, it’s a great group of players. Sometimes in your career you have to make certain decisions, and I think this one is the right one for me.

“I’ve spoken to the manager and he’s shown me the way he wants to play and how he sees me playing and fitting into the team. The players here are amazing, I’ve seen them, I’ve played against them and, like I said, I’m just excited to get started.
“After leaving (Spurs) it was important that I went somewhere where I had that platform to play week in, week out. Millwall gave me that, and that’s all I wanted to do. I just want to continue that up here now at Sheffield United.”
Jose Mourinho is a fan of Japhet Tanganga
Tanganga came through the ranks of Tottenham Hotspur and had a fan in the legendary manager Jose Mourinho during his tenure.
The Portuguese manager, not known for relying on youth, turned to an emerging talent in Tanganga at the time and put a lot of faith in him to be part of his defence.
Mourinho spoke to the BBC about the quality of the defender leading into a Premier League game with Aston Villa.
He said: “Tanganga’s already in the dressing room with Skipp.

“Both are fantastic kids – both kids in which we believe a lot.
“The difference is with Japhet that the big opportunity appeared. With Skipp that has not happened yet – the big opportunity to start matches and play many minutes.
“But both are in the first-team dressing room. And our objective – what we are working on – is to make them Tottenham players for many years.”
