Sheffield United are reportedly weighing up a move for a former Premier League star as Ruben Selles searches for defensive recruits.
In the OPTA supercomputer predictions, Sheffield United are Championship title favourites for the upcoming campaign.
However, Blades boss Ruben Selles will need to ramp up the club’s transfer business before the window slams shut in order to achieve that feat.
One expert believes Sheffield United have ‘serious work to do’ in the market, with their opening weekend clash against Bristol City fast approaching.
As a result, Sheffield United are reportedly considering a move for an Italian top flight talent as an Anel Ahmedhodzic replacement, who is a familiar face in English football.

Sheffield United consider Ben Godfrey after Anel Ahmedhodzic exit
Sheffield United fans were ‘gutted’ at Ahmedhodzic’s exit in his £7m switch to Dutch giants Feyenoord, and rightly so given his impact at the heart of the Blades’ defence over recent seasons.
Ahmedhodzic featured 114 times for the Blades since joining in the summer of 2022, with 31 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.
Replacing Ahmedhodzic is an imperative task for Selles, and now it has emerged that Sheffield United are weighing up a move for Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey.
Sky Sports report: “Sheffield United are also interested in Charlie Hughes as they look for a replacement for Anel Ahmedhodzic, but have yet to make a bid.
“Atalanta’s Ben Godfrey is another central defender being considered by the Blades.”
Godfrey joined Ipswich Town on loan last season, but made only three Premier League appearances under Kieran McKenna during the second half of the season.
Unfortunately for Godfrey, he failed to live up to the form that saw former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti heap praise on the Englishman.

What Carlo Ancelotti said about Ben Godfrey during time at Everton
Two-time England international Godfrey played the majority of his football at Everton, with 93 Toffees outings to his name.
Former Everton and Real Madrid boss Ancelotti heaped praise on Godfrey during his tenure at Goodison Park.
As quoted by The Guardian, Ancelotti said of Godfrey in 2021: “To see and watch Ben Godfrey at this moment, in this period, is a pleasure.
“He has surprised me because I didn’t know him so well [when he signed]. He was a signing from the club, from our scouts, and he has been really good. He has been able to adapt very quickly to different positions.”
Godfrey’s loan stint at the Tractor Boys could indicate his desire to return to English football permanently, and his defensive abilities and experience would be a suitable replacement for Ahmedhodzic at the Blades.
