Sheffield United have had a shocking start to the season, with the club rooted to the bottom of the Championship table after two games.
Bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday are just ahead of the Blades on away goals scored, with Ruben Selles’ side losing 1-0 at the weekend away to Swansea City in South Wales.
It follows a crushing 4-1 defeat to Bristol City on the opening weekend, with Gerhard Struber masterminding an incredible Robins performance at Bramall Lane, just three months after they were beaten 6-0 on aggregate by the South Yorkshire outfit in the play-offs.
Nevertheless, defensively, Sheffield United have struggled. Anel Ahmedhodzic’s move to Feyenoord has left them even lighter at the back, but now they may have found the experience that they need in defence.

Sheffield United are pushing to sign Ben Mee
Ben Mee left Brentford at the end of last season, bringing his three-year association with the Bees to an end, having joined the Premier League side from Burnley in 2022.

However, it has now been reported by The Star that Sheffield United are looking to sign the centre-back this summer, and he has been invited to train with the squad.
Mee has shut down any rumours linking him to Sheffield Wednesday, who are under a three-window transfer fee ban. This means they can only sign free agents and loanees currently.
However, it is Sheffield United who are leading the race for the 35-year-old right now, as they look to add to their backline following a difficult opening two weeks to the season.
Thomas Frank is a huge Ben Mee fan
After joining Brentford in 2022, Mee played 37 Premier League games in his first season, only missing the Bees’ 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the October, with Thomas Frank keeping him on the bench.
His minutes started to lessen as the years went by, playing 16 times in the league in the 2023/24 campaign, before he made just seven appearances last season.
Nevertheless, Frank was extremely complimentary about the veteran defender’s impact at the GTech Community Stadium when it was announced that Mee was leaving Brentford in May.

He said (via: BBC Sport): “Ben has been fantastic for us. His first season was outstanding; he was a big part of us finishing ninth in the Premier League.
“He has not had as many minutes in the two seasons since then, but he has always performed when called upon. Ben is a top pro and a top person – he will be missed. We wish him all the best for the future.”
