Birmingham City have been told to complete two permanent transfers in the upcoming summer window.

The Championship transfer window is set to open for Birmingham City and the other 23 teams on June 1.

It will then close for a few days before reopening on June 16, before finally slamming shut on September 1.

It’s expected to be a busy summer at St Andrew’s, with Birmingham set to be aggressive in the transfer market.

Now, one Sky Sports pundit thinks the Blues should be looking to make two signings permanent in the coming months.

Birmingham City told to sign Ben Davies and Kieran Dowell permanently

Ben Davies joined Birmingham on a season-long loan from Scottish powerhouse Rangers.

The centre-back went on to make 35 League One appearances in 2024/25, scoring one goal.

Kieran Dowell also moved from the Gers, arriving on a short-term loan in the winter transfer window.

He provided five goals and four assists in 19 league matches as the Midlands outfit went on to break the EFL points record.

Now, Don Goodman has been asked if Birmingham should look to sign both players permanently.

To which he responded to Football League World: “I would say yes in terms of making the loan moves for Kieran Dowell and Ben Davies permanent.

“They’ve performed so well this season, albeit at League One level, but they are part of a group that had great success together and no doubt will be ambitious next season to try and finish as high up the Championship as possible.

“And they will also need to add a bit more quality throughout the squad as well if they’re going to compete in the top half of the Championship next season.

“But a good starting point would be making players that did really, really well for you on loan last season permanent signings.”

Ben Davies and Kieran Dowell futures at Rangers

For now, though, it looks like Birmingham will have to wait before they can try and sign Davies and Dowell to permanent deals.

A report from Birmingham Live last weekend claimed that before the duo’s futures can be decided, Rangers need to address their managerial situation.

Barry Ferguson is in interim charge of the Scottish giants, and a permanent appointment is yet to be made.

As a result, the Birmingham loanees’ futures will not be decided until Rangers make a decision over who their new boss will be.
