Southampton are set to receive a £7.5million bid for one of their players yet to play a game this season, and Saints fans are all saying the same thing in reaction to the news.
The former Premier League club have had a mixed start to their return to the second tier, most recently falling to a 2-1 defeat to Stoke City despite the Potters going down to 10 men after Divin Mubama was sent off on the hour mark.
The Saints have made just three additions this summer. EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Finance Expert Adam Williams says Southampton will need to sell before they can buy, with Tottenham one of the Premier League clubs interested in Tyler Dibling.

Now, another Saints player’s potential exit route has emerged – but fans think the fee being mooted for him is ‘crazy’.
Southampton fans tell club to accept Wrexham’s £7.5million bid for Will Smallbone ‘immediately’
Saints midfielder Smallbone is yet to play a game this season after suffering a calf injury this summer. However, even if he was fit, it’s unlikely the 25-year-old will have been a starter for Will Still.
Now, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Wrexham are looking to submit a bid of £7.5 million for the central midfielder who played a key role in Southampton’s last promotion-winning campaign.
The south coast side would receive pure profit for Smallbone – who has made 90 appearances for the club since his debut in 2020 – given he came through their academy. Wrexham are expecting to have an answer on the move by the end of the week.
The report also states Wrexham are interested in Wales international Jordan James, along with West Ham’s Andy Irving. Southampton’s Daily Echo says the club are happy for Smallbone to leave permanently this summer, too.
Saints fans are happy with the idea of Smallbone leaving for the fee being suggested, with plenty surprised by how much is being put on the table.
“If the fee is anywhere near this we should be accepting immediately,” one wrote on X in response to the report.
“Would be a good signing for them. Good player, just not good enough to get in our team, still a good squad player for us though,” a second said.
A third added: “Smallbone has been underrated/underappreciated by us for a while… but £7.5m is a crazy fee for him.”
If Southampton do accept the bid, it could free funds up for them to sign new players including Saints target Finn Azaz.
Wrexham to up transfer spending to £30 million with Will Smallbone bid
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have funded Phil Parkinson’s summer sufficiently this season, with Wrexham’s current spending fee sitting at £23.4 million for this window alone.
Callum Doyle is the latest arrival at Wrexham, signing from Manchester City for £8 million. Nathan Broadhead is their most expensive signing so far this window, re-joining from Ipswich Town for £10 million after spending parts of his youth career at the Welsh club.
If Smallbone joins their long list of midfield options for the fee being mooted, Wrexham will hit the £30 million mark with their 11th signing of the campaign.
After throwing a 2-0 lead to Sheffield Wednesday away on Saturday, Parkinson said: “It might be some extra bodies in to make sure we’ve got options to freshen a team up during a game, and things tactically we’ll look at.”

However, he also noted there may need to be some outgoings to stop the squad from being overinflated.
