Sheffield Wednesday are set to travel to Wales this weekend to take on Wrexham in the Championship, with both sides looking for their first win of the league season.

After a summer full of destruction in S6, Sheffield Wednesday fans continue to make their voices heard in opposition to Dejphon Chansiri.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters protested at Leicester City on the opening weekend of the Championship season, staging a ‘late to your seat’ initiative in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

That was followed up by the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust asking fans to blow whistles in the first five minutes of the home clash against Stoke City.

Now the latest actions set to be taken by Sheffield Wednesday have been shared ahead of their match with Wrexham.

Wrexham will act ‘in solidarity’ with Sheffield Wednesday

It has been reported by Rob Staton, a journalist with BBC Sheffield, on the actions that are set to be taken in Wrexham by the Sheffield Wednesday fans.

He has praised Wrexham, and in particular owner Rob McElhenney, for the actions they are taking to support the Owls in their aim of saving the club, with a post to social media.

Staton said: “In the last 24 hours, Wrexham fans have successfully persuaded their club to allow Sheffield Wednesday supporters to use their protest banner in the ground.

“One of their owners @RMcElhenney has revealed there are 10,000 gold shirts from last season available, with all profits going to @SWFCTrust.

“They’re even selling the shirts online with the words ‘in solidarity’ under the £25 price. Perhaps this has even raised the profile of the situation at Sheffield Wednesday; who knows? Football still has its moments.”

Wrexham fans are planning to wear last season’s gold kit as a show of support for Wednesday, with fans flocking to buy the old shirt for Saturday’s game. In response, Rob McElhenney tweeted: “There are 10k more gold shirts available. The profits from any gold shirt purchased between now and Monday will go to Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust.”

Wrexham fans have sympathy for Sheffield Wednesday plight

Wrexham had originally planned to deny the protest from Sheffield Wednesday; however, fans have managed to convince the club to allow the Owls fans to do this to save their club.

This may be due to Wrexham previously having gone through similar tough times, with the club coming close to liquidation not too long ago.

Wrexham have been on the brink of liquidation in the past, having raised £100,000 amongst the fanbase to keep the club afloat, and whilst they are enjoying a golden era right now under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, they will share the same displeasure towards unfit owners as Sheffield Wednesday supporters do.
