Southampton began their new Championship campaign in dramatic fashion as they scored two injury-time goals to beat Wrexham 2-1.

It was the perfect result for new manager Will Still, who is looking to bring Southampton back to the Premier League after their relegation last season, with it being a disappointing campaign as they almost became the worst club to ever compete in the division based on points tally.

While there will be a buzz around Southampton for the next few days, this could soon be extinguished with a number of players being rumoured to be departing the club.

Atletico Madrid are tracking Mateus Fernandes, and Tyler Dibling is linked with Everton, both of the Saints stars were absent from Still’s XI.

Now it has been reported that another player could be set to leave Southampton this summer.

Club Brugge are in talks with Samuel Edozie

It has been reported by Pete O’Rourke on X that the Southampton player is of interest to the Belgian side.

Club Brugge are understood to be in talks with Southampton ahead of a deal for the winger, with interest likely being down to Samuel Edozie’s campaign last season.

Edozie spent last season on loan in Belgium playing for Anderlecht and impressing throughout the campaign.

The fact that Club Brugge know Edozie would be able to adapt to Belgium this season, having flourished in the division last season with their title rivals, makes him seem an obvious player to sign to strengthen their squad; hence, why they are in talks with Southampton.

Pep Guardiola is a fan of Samuel Edozie

Southampton signed Samuel Edozie from Manchester City in September 2022, with the youthful winger playing 63 matches across three seasons for the Saints.

Edozie had his best season while under Russell Martin in the Championship, as he played a key part in helping to get them promoted.

Another manager who was a fan of Edozie, despite letting him go, is Pep Guardiola.

The Spanish manager is a fan of his attitude and explained exactly what he thought of the winger in 2021 with the media team of Manchester City.

He said: “As a young talent, having a special quality, a guy who gets to the box with intention to score a goal – it’s so important for wingers.

“He’s an incredible young player with good pace.

“But we have to be patient with him. He had minutes and played good and this is important.”
