Southampton are poised to lose another high-profile player this summer to a European top flight side.

Southampton beat Wrexham 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Will Still’s first Championship game in charge.

Wrexham took the lead courtesy of a Josh Windass penalty, but late goals from defenders Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens completed a dramatic Saints comeback.

Off the field, matters are also testing for the Southampton transfer team, with a litany of key figures mooted for exits before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1.

Now, one in-demand Southampton star has made his future footballing feelings perfectly clear regarding a move to a European top flight outfit.

Samuel Edozie ‘wants’ Southampton to accept bid from Club Brugge

Several Southampton stars have been linked with exits from St Mary’s between now and the summer transfer window deadline, despite the season already starting.

West Ham are set to bid for Mateus Fernandes, and Tyler Dibling is training on his own at Southampton amid his links with a move to Everton.

Away from those two top talents, there are others at St Mary’s whose futures hang in the balance, namely Samuel Edozie.

Edozie entered talks with Club Brugge this week to return to the league where he starred on loan last season, and now reports have indicated that the winger “wants” Southampton to accept the Belgian giants’ bid.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri revealed on X: “Sam Edozie chose for Club Brugge! Seduced by the project, Edozie wants to return in JPL before step up to a Top 5 League, like Racing Strasbourg.

“Edozie now wants Southampton FC to accept Blauw&Zwart next bid. Saints asking for €10M.

Tavolieri later added: “English winger has clearly expressed during a meeting today with Southampton FC his desire to join Blauw&Zwart. Edozie wants Saints FC to accept Club Brugge last €8M (£6.9m) bid.”

A €10m bid would constitute a fee in the region of £8.6m for the 22-year-old, who scored four goals and registered four assists in 32 outings on loan at Belgium Pro League outfit Anderlecht last season.

Samuel Edozie could annoy Anderlecht fans with Club Brugge move

Edozie impressed throughout the 2024/25 season in the Belgian First Division for Anderlecht last season, helping his loan outfit to a fourth-placed finish.

After concluding his stint with the 34-time Belgian champions, Edozie said on his Instagram: “To the players, coaching staff, supporters, and everyone who makes Anderlecht the incredible club it is, I just wanted to say thank you for making me feel at home from day one.

“It’s been a season I’ll never forget! COYM!”

Despite his affiliation with Anderlecht, the English starlet is poised to join their Belgian top flight rivals, Club Brugge, to directly strengthen their title prospects against his former loan side.

Southampton fans will be far more reluctant to see the likes of Fernandes and Dibling depart this summer in comparison to Edozie, given the Club Brugge-bound winger’s inconsistent output in a Saints shirt since his move from Manchester City in 2022.
