Middlesbrough are expected to have a busy summer transfer window as they prepare for yet another season in the Championship.

Boro were last relegated from the Premier League in 2017 along with Sunderland, who have since dropped down to League One and now climbed back up to the top flight.

The Teessiders, meanwhile, have been stuck in the Championship the entire time and, after a 10th-place finish in 2024/25, they have sacked Michael Carrick.

Steve Cooper is one of the options to replace Carrick, with several more names linked.

Now, a further insight into the club’s plans for the summer has been provided after EFL Analysis’ recent update.

Middlesbrough plan investment this summer

We revealed over the weekend that Middlesbrough are desperate for a right-back, with Luke Ayling the only natural option in that position.

EFL Analysis also learned Boro are working to strengthen four or five positions in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Now, the Northern Echo have published a report outlining what the Boro chairman’s plans are for the coming months.

And they say that Middlesbrough owner Steve Gibson will be investing in the current squad as he once again looks to try and make a push for the Premier League in 2025/26.

Middlesbrough manager latest

We revealed previously that Gary O’Neil would be interested in taking the Middlesbrough job if Carrick were to be sacked.

And the Northern Echo have said on Saturday that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss remains a candidate for the role.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough would have to pay to sign Danny Rohl, with our understanding that his release clause is close to £5m.

Jon Dahl Tomasson is linked to Boro as well and has commented on becoming the Teessiders’ next boss.
