Millwall came close to reaching the Championship play-offs last season; however, the Lions missed out on this achievement on the final day of the season.
Alex Neil’s side needed a win on the final day of the Championship season last year, and they would have made their way into the play-offs; however, they could not manage it.
For the upcoming 2025/26 Championship season there will be expectations that they could once again be flirting with the chance of promotion to the Premier League.
This would indicate the club being busy in the summer transfer window, in which they have already made moves in signing a new goalkeeper and breaking their record transfer signing when they brought in Josh Coburn.
It now looks set that Alex Neil will add more players to his Millwall squad with another signing.
Millwall are set to sign Chelsea’s Zak Sturge permanently
Alex Neil’s side have been linked with a number of players through the summer transfer window.
As per information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can reveal that Zak Sturge is set to join the club on a permanent deal this summer.

It is understood that the deal has been wrapped up on the Chelsea end, and he is set to move across London to The Den permanently after having been on loan at Millwall last season.
While his move to Millwall is in place, there has yet to be any confirmation on a fee or the length of contract he is set to sign.
Who is Zak Sturge?
The 21-year-old joined Chelsea’s academy from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022 as the Blues recognised the ability the defender possessed.
However, he could never break into the first team at Chelsea and so had been loaned out to Peterborough in August 2023 and would feature eight times before returning to Stamford Bridge in January that season.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Yellow Cards | Red Cards | |
| 2022-2025 | Chelsea | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2023-24 | Peterborough | 8 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| 2025-present | Millwall | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Sturge would then join Millwall on loan last season, playing a total of five matches for the club.
Alex Neil will have seen something in training and those five matches to bring Sturge in on a permanent deal as the young left back looks to kickstart his career.
