West Brom named as Harry Toffolo suitor, but they may face competition from Scottish giants

Harry Toffolo could be one of the most sought-after free agents this summer, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal West Brom are in the race to sign him.

The summer transfer window may be closed for a few more days, but that doesn’t stop clubs lining up deals in preparation for the 2025/26 campaign.

Naturally, we’d love to see some big money moves across the EFL, and we’re sure we won’t be disappointed on that front as clubs fight it out to gain access to the Premier League.

But, there are plenty of great players becoming free agents in the Premier League this summer, with Harry Toffolo one that could well be heading to the Championship.

We’ve already discussed Ryan Mason’s priorities as West Brom manager this summer, and while shopping at Spurs for young talent is thought to be on his agenda, he is also now looking at capturing the more experienced Toffolo.

Toffolo was just released by Nottingham Forest, and thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can reveal that West Brom have the 29-year-old on their radar.

Bailey said: “He’s an interesting one. I did hear a little bit of a squeak for Celtic, but I don’t think there’s anything in that. I do know Celtic are looking at Josh Doig and I think that one’s progressing, to be fair.

“As I understand it, there’s been sniffs from West Brom. Quite a few teams in the Championship will be keen, to be fair and I think this is one of those situations where, as he’s on a free, he’s not going to be short of options.

“I don’t think it’s going to be happening this week or any time soon. He does still hope he could get a Premier League chance. It could be that Wolves take a chance on him.

“Toffolo won’t be in a massive hurry because there’s good interest in him at the top of the Championship. He’s not about to sign with anyone yet, I don’t believe. He’s got good options out there. He’s a very solid player and he’ll get a good club.”

Harry Toffolo’s career to date

The idea of Toffolo going to a club in the Championship is not unthinkable, given his pedigree across the EFL with clubs like Huddersfield Town, Lincoln City, and Norwich.

In fact, Toffolo has actually played more games in the Championship (99) than in any other division, with another 96 games in League One compared to just 46 in the top flight.

The problem for West Brom or any other second tier suitors will be Toffolo’s wage demands. As per Capology, he was on £35,000 per week at Forest, and it’s unlikely he would be able to get that in the Championship.

We are told West Brom won’t have the biggest budget this summer. Now, it just remains to be seen whether they’ll have enough to put together a suitable package for Toffolo.
