West Brom have been busy this summer in a number of different departments as they aim to fight for promotion.

The Baggies were last in the Premier League in 2021, as they suffered relegation in a disappointing campaign.

Things looked quite negative for a period following the relegation; however, the club will hope they have turned a corner and things are moving forward with the appointment of Ryan Mason as their new manager.

Meanwhile in the transfer market, West Brom look like they will hold onto the exciting talent of Mikey Johnston after he had been rumoured to be leaving for the Brazilian top flight.

It would have been one of the more intriguing sales the club would have made, but not one of the most expensive.

EFL Analysis brings you West Brom’s five most expensive sales.

5. Curtis Davies – £8.6 million

The fifth place on this list is technically shared between Curtis Davies and Jay Rodriguez; however, due to the sale of the defender being made 11 years earlier than the striker, his fee is worth more through inflation.

Davies was sold to Aston Villa in the summer of 2008, after a season on loan at the club initially.

The central defender may not be fondly remembered by fans due to his exit from the club, as he resigned the captaincy and was frustrated at the valuation of him by the club after he had been part of their relegated team.

Davies played a total of 73 matches across two campaigns, the first in the Premier League and the second in the Championship.

4. Nacer Chadli – £10.4 million

West Brom signed the Belgian winger from Tottenham Hotspur for a record fee of £13 million in the summer of 2016.

Chadli would spend two seasons in the Midlands with the Baggies, struggling to find the form that he had shown in glimpses at Spurs.

He was sold to Monaco in August 2018, with West Brom managing to recuperate some of the fee they spent on him, despite the Belgian only playing on five occasions in his final season at the club.

3. Saido Berahino – £12 million

Saido Berahino came up through the youth ranks of West Brom and impressed at the club in his first two seasons in the Premier League.

As the club prepared for their third season with Berahino leading the line, he submitted a transfer request in order to attempt and secure a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The London club’s bids were rejected, and no move came to pass; Berahino would then remain at the club until January 2017, never finding the form he once had.

Stoke City would sign Berahino for £12 million, and he would stay there until the summer of 2019, when he would then move to Belgium.

2. Matheus Pereira – £15.6 million

In August 2019 Matheus Pereira was brought in on loan, with an option to buy from Sporting Lisbon, and he proved to be a great purchase in the Championship.

He was pivotal to the club’s promotion to the Premier League, and he would continue this form in the English top flight.

However, that season the club would be relegated, and he would opt to leave West Brom to join Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

West Brom were given £15.6 million for Pereira, an offer they couldn’t refuse following their relegation with the need to bring funds into the club.

1. Salomon Rondon – £15.8 million

The Venezuelan striker was a force during his time in the Premier League; his ability to hold play up, bring others into the game, and then apply the finish was incredible.

Salomon Rondon joined the club in August 2015, and he would be a huge figure at the club across his three seasons at the Hawthorns.

He scored a total of 28 goals in 120 appearances before he was loaned to Newcastle United for a season.

Rondon would opt to join the Chinese Super League in Dalian Professional, who were managed by Rafa Benitez at the time, joining them for a fee worth £15.8 million.
