Alex Mowatt names the one thing that Ryan Mason does as West Brom manager that Carlos Corberan didn’t do

Alex Mowatt appears to be loving life at West Bromwich Albion under new manager Ryan Mason.

Mason was appointed as West Brom’s new head coach after the Baggies made the decision to sack Tony Mowbray.

Club icon Mowbray was sacked after failing to pick up from the excellent work that Carlos Corberan did in his two-and-a-half years at The Hawthorns.

Since moving to the Black Country, Mason has been loving life at West Brom and the energy seems to be rubbing off on the players too, with Mowatt noticing one stark contrast between his new boss and Corberan.

Alex Mowatt loves Ryan Mason’s encouragement

Every manager works differently and Mowatt seems to be loving the new style brought in by one of the Championship’s youngest managers.

Working under his third manager in less than a year means lots of change, but the midfielder is already noticing the difference.

“You just roll with it – sometimes you go from one extreme to the other, which maybe happened last season,” he told BBC Radio WM.

“Sometimes it’s difficult to adapt to it but it’s about finding the right balance.

“With Carlos you didn’t speak to him much but with Ryan you can have a conversation with him and he’ll speak to you after training and get feedback from the lads which all helps.”

Alex Mowatt excited to be coached by former midfield star

Mowatt is likely to benefit more than most of his West Brom teammates from Mason’s appointment as a fellow midfielder.

Mason played regularly in the middle of the park for Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City, making him the perfect mentor for the Baggies star.

“He can help me massively,” Mowatt added. “He sees the game from a midfielder’s point of view and how they want to get on the ball. I’m excited to work with him.

“I worked with [Michael] Carrick before as well and the little tips he gave me helped so much and you think of those when you go into a game.”
