West Brom’s new manager announcement ‘very close’ as Ryan Mason makes decision on Spurs future

West Brom have taken their time to appoint a new manager, but EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that their search is coming to an end soon.

The Baggies parted ways with Tony Mowbray way back in April after it was confirmed they would not be securing a play-off spot this season.

Since then, James Morrison took temporary charge until the end of the campaign, and the Midlands club have been assessing their options behind the scenes.

For some time now, Ryan Mason has been the favourite for the job. West Brom have been made to wait, but it seems the wait is now all but over.

Ryan Mason now on the verge of accepting West Brom job

Thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal where the Baggies stand when it comes to securing their next manager.

EFL Analysis understands that Ryan Mason is now “very close” to accepting the role as West Bromwich Albion manager.

The club has been working hard to bring the Tottenham Hotspur coach to The Hawthorns and sources have now confirmed to us that a deal is “edging to completion” as we speak.

West Brom had been waiting for Mason to complete the season with Tottenham, where he and his team have just won the Europa League to add a positive spin to a poor season in the league.

Ryan Mason’s managerial career so far

Mason has had a brief managerial career, but has stepped up when Tottenham Hotspur needed him most on more than one occasion.

The young coach took over in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking back in 2021, and even managed the team in the Carabao Cup final, falling to a 1-0 defeat to Man City on the day.

He also filled in for the final stages of the 2022/23 season when Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini departed the club.

Overall, Mason has 13 games under his belt as a manager. He registered six wins and six defeats in total, plus one draw.

It will be fascinating to see what he can do in his first full-time managerial role. But, as per our finance expert Adam Williams, West Brom may not be handing Mason a big transfer budget this summer if and when he takes over, which will add to the challenge.
