Southampton are interested in signing a Manchester City youngster as Will Still looks to bolster the Saints’ defence.
The remainder of the summer transfer window will be an interesting time when it comes to Southampton.
Will Still has enjoyed an unbeaten start to life in the Championship, after Southampton beat Wrexham 2-1 on the opening weekend before holding Ipswich to a 1-1 draw last time out.
Southampton face Stoke City this weekend, but first, Still faced questions about the Saints’ ongoing transfer business.
Still confirmed that Southampton are “negotiating” with Premier League giants Manchester City about a highly-rated full-back.

Southampton in talks with Manchester City to sign Issa Kabore
With the summer transfer window deadline of September 1 fast approaching, the negotiations at Southampton have stepped up a gear.
Recent reports emerged that Southampton are in talks with Middlesbrough for Finn Azaz, with the Saints’ opening bid rejected by Boro for the attacking midfielder.
Azaz’s arrival would help soften the blow if either Spurs, Crystal Palace or Everton sign Tyler Dibling.
Still commented on the Dibling saga in his pre-Stoke press conference, in which he also discussed Southampton’s interest in Manchester City right-back Issa Kabore.
Reporter Ben Jacobs revealed on X that “Kabore has held talks with Southampton with Manchester City open to a loan or sale. Lyon are also interested. Hamburg had made an approach earlier in the window but are not an active suitor.”
Ahead of the Stoke clash, Still said: “We have spoken to him, I’ve had players from Man City over the past couple of years, and I’ve always worked well with them.
“That is an option, but again we’re just negotiating and trying to find a way for it to work for all parties.
“He’s a good player, he’s got a few qualities, so it’s ongoing.”
24-year-old Kabore spent last season on loan at both Benfica and Werder Bremen, making a total of 16 appearances, in his fifth successive year away from the Etihad.

What Pep Guardiola has said about Southampton target Issa Kabore
Kabore was in line to remain among the City squad ahead of last season, but was eventually sent out on loan to Benfica, before being recalled from the Portuguese giants to be sent to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.
Last August, as quoted by City Xtra, Guardiola said of Kabore: “He’s training really good, and he helped us in the position that sometimes we need, so yeah, maybe. We have to decide. It’s not already decided.”
| Team name | Issa Kabore appearances |
| KV Mechelen | 34 |
| Troyes | 32 |
| Marseille | 29 |
| Luton Town | 26 |
| Benfica | 7 |
| Werder Bremen | 9 |
| Burkina Faso (national team) | 25 |
Burkina Faso international Kabore is yet to play a first-team game for Guardiola since arriving from Belgian outfit Mechelen in 2020.
Kabore made 24 Premier League appearances on loan at Luton Town after his two spells in France with Troyes and Marseille.
Still is no stranger to having supreme young talents on loan from City after Juma Bah starred on loan under the now-Saints boss at RC Lens last season.
EFL Analysis exclusively revealed in June that Southampton wanted to sign Bah on loan this summer to reunite the defender with Still, but Ligue 1 giants OGC Nice won the race for his signature in June.
