Alex Neil can record historical Millwall feat vs Sheffield United, it has not been done in 30 years

Millwall boss Alex Neil could match a 30-year standing record if they manage to topple Sheffield United this weekend.

Millwall will travel to Sheffield United, where Alex Neil will be hoping to capitalise on the Blades’ poor start to the 2025/26 Championship season.

Sheffield United have suffered two successive Championship defeats, having recorded toothless displays against both Bristol City and Swansea City.

As for Millwall, a promising opening weekend on their travels against Norwich City, which ended with a 2-1 win, was followed up by a contrasting home loss to Middlesbrough, something that Neil will be expecting a response from.

Not only will Neil be hoping that his side can get their positive start to the campaign back on track in order to catapult up the table, but it will also help them achieve a 30-year first, which Millwall have not matched since the 1995/96 season.

Millwall could record successive away wins to kick off their campaign to match their 30-year record

Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane has often proved to be a fortress, especially last season under Chris Wilder. However, there was a sour mood around S2 following Sheffield United’s opening day defeat to Bristol City, and Millwall will be hoping to capitalise on that.

As well as getting the necessary points on the board, Millwall will also be keen to notch a win on their travels, as this would be the first time they had won their first two away league games of a campaign since the 1995-96 season.

That season saw Millwall win three away games on the spin, against Port Vale, Reading, and Portsmouth in Division 1. Millwall would go on to record an unbeaten away run of 10 games in all competitions.

Sheffield United could be rejuvenated for the clash vs Millwall

Whilst on paper Millwall might be fancying their chances against Sheffield United, it may prove to be a more difficult tie after the Blades corrected their most prominent concern of the opening two games.

Sheffield United were significantly low on centre-back options against both Bristol City and Swansea City, but have since added to their ranks with the arrivals of Ben Godfrey and Swedish youngster Nils Zetterstrom.

It may not be ideal for the Blades pair to be rushed into Ruben Selles’ side, but it is expected that Godfrey will get the nod to start, with it looking as though Rhys Norrington-Davies will move on loan to QPR.

Despite the necessary recruitment of defenders for Sheffield United, they still find themselves in a tricky spell of form, and Millwall can easily capitalise on that in front of what could be a frustrated Bramall Lane crowd.
