Ipswich Town inflicted a 5-0 hammering on Sheffield United on Friday evening, with some stunning goals from one player in particular.

Ipswich beat Sheffield United 5-0 on Friday to collect their first victory of the Championship season.

Jaden Philogene’s hat-trick for Ipswich was the difference-maker, which even led Blades boss Ruben Selles to pay tribute to Philogene.

Despite the winger’s dynamite display, Leif Davis was the unsung hero for Ipswich against Sheffield United, but it was the former Aston Villa winger who stole the headlines.

After the resounding win, Tractor Boys skipper Dara O’Shea heaped praise on Philogene following his first hat-trick in senior football.

Dara O’Shea believes Championship defences will fear Jaden Philogene

Philogene has endured a challenging time since his move to Ipswich, with the 23-year-old managing just two goals in the Premier League last term.

However, after his three-goal haul and outstanding performance against the Blades, many Ipswich fans are hoping this could signify a return to the stunning form he showed in his breakout at Hull City.

Before presenting his teammate with the thoroughly deserved man-of-the-match award, Tractor Boys skipper O’Shea claimed that Championship defences will now “be fearing” the wrath of Philogene this season.

O’Shea told Sky Sports: “You saw it tonight, but we see it every day in training.

“It’s frightening what he can do with the ball, he’s announced himself tonight in the Championship.

“I think everyone is going to be fearing him now after todays performance.

“I’m really happy for him because of the hard work that he puts in, and he got the rewards today. Fair play to him.”

Following the victory, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna heaped praise on the England youth international, as well as his unsung heroes.

Kieran McKenna praises Jaden Philogene after hat-trick

Although Philogene scored three stunning strikes, using both his left and right foot, McKenna was most pleased by Jack Clarke’s goal for Ipswich’s misery-compounding fifth of the evening.

In the wake of Ipswich’s resounding win, McKenna heaped praise on Philogene for both his performance and his application.

“I’m really happy for him, first and foremost.”, McKenna told Ipswich’s media. “But I’m happy for the whole left-side unit.”

“We worked on it all through pre-season, with Jaden and Jack (Clarke) and their relationship with Leif (Davis).

“There have been some good signs in the first couple of games but it doesn’t get there overnight, so it was good to get some rewards tonight.

“Jack’s attitude and energy off the bench really summed up the team tonight and I was really pleased.

“Jaden has been working really hard to reintegrate himself into the team after his injury and I’m sure he’ll be feeling this was his best night for the club and maybe even one of the best nights of his career.

“But it was a team effort and we’re all really happy to have got the result.”

With Ipswich’s attack finally clicking this season, McKenna will be hoping Philogene can carry his untouchable form from the Blades rout into Ipswich’s upcoming clash at Blackburn Rovers next weekend.
