Oxford United’s win against Bristol City saw Przemyslaw Placheta steal the show as they handed the Robins their first defeat of the season.
Bristol City’s brilliant start to the 2025/26 Championship season has been brought to a shuddering halt after Oxford United stunned Gerhard Struber’s side.
Oxford United found themselves ahead, courtesy of Nik Prelec, before Przemyslaw Placheta popped up with a phenomenal strike.
Gary Rowett’s side’s two-goal deficit was halved by Anis Mehmeti, who provided a moment of brilliance himself, but things were decided after a late goal by Brian De Keersmaecker to make it 3-1.
It was a top showing from Oxford United, and that was embodied by the brilliant performance delivered by Placheta.

Przemyslaw Placheta shines as Oxford United beat Bristol City
Oxford United star Przemyslaw Placheta was on hand to score with an ‘unbelievable’ strike against Bristol City, which saw the Polish midfielder let rip from 25 yards out, arrowing past Radek Vitek at his near post.
Aside from the goal, Placheta delivered a formidable performance on the right flank, having, via SofaScore, managed two shots on target, alongside one key pass and a 100% dribble success rate.
He also provided an impact on the defensive side, helping to quash Bristol City’s threat by managing two interceptions, a clearance, and five duels won out of seven.
It was a well-needed top performance from Placheta against Bristol City, who had struggled so far in the 2025/26 Championship season until the trip to Ashton Gate.

Gerhard Struber will be left stunned after Bristol City defeat
From Bristol City’s perspective, the result will come as a major surprise for the side who were previously unbeaten in the division.
The result still leaves the Robins in a brilliant position, currently occupying 3rd with just one point separating them and the automatic promotion spots, but it will feel like a major missed opportunity to not overturn a beleaguered U’s side.
Bristol City were uncharacteristic with their performance, having struggled to notch their usual number of chances.
Oxford United also had an extra edge in the final third, finishing two of their five big chances, while Bristol City could not score any of their three.
