Sheffield Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan was shown a second yellow card during the 2-1 loss at Leicester City on Sunday.
Leicester City beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in a fiercely contested clash on Championship opening weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday were one goal ahead at half-time thanks to a deflected strike from midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah.
Leicester were stunned at the interval, and Marti Cifuentes’ genius change to substitute Oliver Skipp for Harry Winks turned the game back in the Foxes’ favour.
With the game at one-one, Owls skipper Barry Bannan was shown a red card, and now the length of his suspension has been confirmed.

How long Barry Bannan will be suspended for after Leicester City red card
With the score at one-one following Jannik Vestergaard’s equaliser, Bannan was shown a yellow card, and only five minutes later, he was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Bannan slid in on Leicester midfielder Harry Winks and was shown a second yellow by referee Matthew Donahue.
The Scotsman appeared to make contact with the ball first but the firm follow through on Winks was deemed a second bookable offence.
As a result, Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Bannan will be suspended for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup first round clash at Bolton Wanderers as the FA take all competitions into account regarding an automatic suspension for a second yellow.
Confirming the news, Sheffield Wednesday’s statement read: “Owls skipper Barry Bannan will miss the club’s trip to Bolton on Wednesday evening through suspension.
“His one-match ban renders him unavailable for the Owls’ midweek visit to the Toughsheet Community Stadium in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
“After serving his suspension, Bannan will be back available for our first home game of the campaign against Stoke on Saturday.”
Bannan will be available to face Stoke City at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

Sky Sports pundit believes Barry Bannan red card was ‘harsh’
Bannan was booked in the 72nd minute for dissent towards referee Donahue following his reaction to Leicester being awarded a free-kick.
Less than five minutes later, Bannan was sent off against Leicester in a decision which was deemed as “quite harsh” by one pundit.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Ryan Lowe said: “I think it’s harsh. I think everyone knows that this is not really a foul, that’s a harsh yellow card for me.
“And then obviously to get the second yellow card which sees him go off the pitch is a big miss.
“He can’t move his leg out the way, the two of them have slid in for the tackle fair, but when you slow it down he does just graze the top of Winks’ leg.
“But he can’t move his leg, and Winks probably makes a meal of it, he does catch him. I think it’s quite harsh.”
Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship opponents for Saturday, Stoke, sit second in the table after the opening weekend, following the Potters’ 3-1 win over Derby County.
