Henrik Pedersen reveals what Sheffield Wednesday need ‘very quickly’ in transfer window

Sheffield Wednesday will need to make up for lost time in the summer transfer window market.

Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-1 at Leicester City on Sunday afternoon to begin their 2025/26 Championship in disappointing fashion.

The deflation stems from the fact that the Owls went one-nil up in the first half thanks to a Nathaniel Chalobah strike that stunned Leicester before half-time.

In the second half, the Foxes’ quality showed with goals from Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes completing the comeback victory for Marti Cifuentes’ side.

After the game, Owls boss Henrik Pedersen made an honest admission about what Sheffield Wednesday need in the market before the window slams shut on September 1.

Henrik Pedersen reveals what Sheffield Wednesday need in transfer window

As a result of the financial crisis overseen by owner Dejphon Chansiri this summer, the EFL put Sheffield Wednesday under multiple embargoes, which inhibited their ability to add in the transfer window.

After it emerged that Sheffield Wednesday’s embargoes will be lifted, the Owls’ squad limit and wage cap have now been removed, but the transfer fee restrictions remain in place.

Following that, it came to light that Sheffield Wednesday want to sign Harry Amass on loan from Manchester United for the 2025/26 campaign.

As well as Amass, Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Toby Collyer, his Red Devils teammate.

After the defeat against Leicester, as quoted by journalist Dom Howson on X, Henrik Pedersen said: “We need new players, otherwise you cannot play a Championship with 46 games.

“We need some guys very quickly, but still, we need to have the right feeling when we sign someone.”

The threadbare Sheffield Wednesday squad needs numbers across the board, but it was obvious in one department of the pitch where recruits must be targeted before the window ends.

Sheffield Wednesday need to sign strikers for Henrik Pedersen

Jamal Lowe and Bailey Cadamarteri started the clash against Leicester, but both Sheffield Wednesday forwards were anonymous in the affair.

Lowe registered only two shots throughout the game, with none hitting the target and he was dispossessed three times.

Fellow forward Cadamarteri had the least touches (25) of any outfield player to play the 90 minutes at the King Power Stadium.

Ike Ugbo was mooted for a move to Sunderland in August last year, but his goalscoring output has decreased severely since the beginning of last season, and he was brought on for Lowe with just a minute to go by Pedersen on Sunday.

After Josh Windass joined Wrexham and Michael Smith signed for Preston North End following the duo’s contract terminations, it’s glaringly obvious that the Owls need reinforcements in their goalscoring department.
