Sheffield Wednesday fans are ‘so proud’ despite Leicester City defeat, they saw a ‘monumental effort’

Going into this weekend’s games, everybody expected Sheffield Wednesday to lose against Leicester City. In the end, those doubters were correct, but the manner of the defeat tells a different story.

With Danny Rohl leaving, players being sold and released in abundance, and wages going unpaid, it’s no wonder many are predicting Sheffield Wednesday will be relegation fodder this season.

In contrast, recently relegated Leicester City have managed to keep the spine of their team and have brought in Marti Cifuentes as manager, so most anticipate they will be challenging for the title.

Our Championship score predictions before the game had Leicester pegged as comfortable winners, but it was anything but for the Foxes, who had to come from behind to snatch all three points late on.

What the Sheffield Wednesday fans are saying after Leicester City defeat

It was a truly brilliant effort from the Owls, who took the lead through a Nathaniel Chalobah goal and they held on throughout the first-half.

Indeed, until Barry Bannan was sent off, it looked like the great performance from Sheffield Wednesday could have secured them a point.

Despite the gut-wrenching late defeat to Leicester, it seems Owls fans are in a buoyant mood after seeing their players give everything for the cause today.

One fan took to Twitter/X to say, “So proud of the boys,” and another said, “If we play like that against anyone that’s not pushing for promotion, we take three points.”

Elsewhere, others added, “Some effort lads, unlucky”, and “Can’t fault the players today.” Another fan described what they saw as a “monumental effort,” and it’s hard to disagree.

Another supporter also wrote: “Result was always irrelevant today under the circumstances, respect to every player that put on the shirt and gave 100%.”

While the general sentiment from the fans is summed up by this comment reading, “Proud of both the players and the fans today. A lot of positives to take into the Stoke game,” there are some concerns.

Plenty of the Wednesday fans agree that, with a bigger squad, they might have got something from the game. Indeed, fitness issues did cost the Owls, with a threadbare squad leaving Henrik Pedersen with very few options from the bench.

With some new signings, Henrik Pedersen might just keep Sheffield Wednesday up

Thankfully, Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer embargo has now been removed, which means they can sign new players.

Pedersen desperately needs them, too, with the Owls boss now down to just 13 senior players for his next game.

It’s thought Wednesday are trying to sign Man Utd duo Harry Amass and Toby Collyer, while it’s also been said that free agents like Ben Mee and Liam Cooper have been training with the Owls.

One player the fans will be eager to see back at Hillsborough is Jack Hunt, who’s been training with his former club again this week.

Suffice it to say, if Pedersen can bring in a handful of new players to flesh out his squad, and if he can get them playing like Wednesday did against Leicester, those relegation predictions could end up being way off.

Owls fans may come away with no points to celebrate today, but they’ll be feeling a lot better about their chances than they did earlier this week, that’s for sure.
