Hull City boss Ruben Selles’ future is still in the balance as Acun Ilicali closes in on a huge decision.
Hull City secured survival in the Championship on the final day of the campaign, with a point away at Fratton Park against Portsmouth proving to be enough to stay up on goal difference as Luton Town dropped into the bottom three.
Whilst it was a brilliant occasion for everyone connected with Hull City to confirm survival, celebrations didn’t last too long as only days later, reports emerged that Acun Ilicali had reservations over Ruben Selles to lead the Tigers next season.
Despite there being several potential suitors for Ilicali to replace Selles with, a decision is still yet to be made over the Portuguese coach, but now it looks as though Ilicali is set to make up his mind soon.

Acun Ilicali set for imminent club meeting as decision over Ruben Selles’ Hull City future awaits
After such a disappointing season, which ultimately saw a poor managerial choice to bring in Tim Walter to replace Liam Rosenior, on top of several misfires in regards to recruitment, almost to the point of the club dropping down to League One.
Selles was able to get Hull City back on track, and despite the resurgence of form of several of the teams in the lower echelons of the Championship table, they were still able to stay up by the skin of their teeth.
However, Ilicali still isn’t 100% convinced of having Selles at the club in the long term, and now reports via Hull Daily Mail suggest that a meeting is imminent in Istanbul, with sporting director Jared Dublin, board member Mustapha Yokes, and head of recruitment Martin Hodge set to convene on Tuesday.
The meeting will see many things discussed, from Selles’ future, to the previous issues surrounding recruitment and what must be done this season.

Acun Ilicali should note Ruben Selles influence on squad amid sacking rumours
Unlike Walter during his tenure at the club, it is clear that Selles has done brilliantly to galvanise the squad, which is part of the reason why Hull City were able to eventually stay in the Championship.
The turnaround in results that Selles was able to achieve, including two notable huge results on their travels away at Sheffield United and Sunderland, should be enough for him to be given a further opportunity, and that is without discussing the injury issues and the poor squad he had at his disposal.
With the injury returning players, as well as a positive summer in terms of recruitment, Selles could easily prove to be the man to take the club forward in the long term, and he should be handed the opportunity to do just that
