Alan Biggs ‘not convinced’ over Sheffield United owners as Chris Wilder uncertainty looms

There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding Chris Wilder’s future at Sheffield United, which has led to Alan Biggs explaining one reason why he is ‘not convinced’ over one ownership decision.

Sheffield United missed out on promotion to the Premier League in the 2024/25 campaign as they lost to Sunderland in the play-off final.

Since then, questions have arisen over the future of Chris Wilder and whether he is the man to bring Sheffield United back up to the Premier League, despite notching 90 points in 46 games this season.

Reports have suggested that Wilder’s position at the club is being considered, and EFL Analysis exclusively confirmed that a decision could be made next week surrounding the Blades boss.

With there still being no clarity on the situation from the club’s end, Alan Biggs has written one thing he is disappointed in from the new Sheffield United owners.

Alan Biggs criticises Sheffield United owners for how they have ‘conducted things’

The consensus around Bramall Lane at this moment is surprise at the potential that Wilder could lose his job, despite delivering an objectively positive season in which they were unlucky to miss out on promotion.

There was seemingly hope that Wilder wouldn’t just be a stop-gap appointment and that the Blades could rebuild in the long-term under the Sheffield United boss, but it seems as though that may not be the case.

Alan Biggs has written about his feelings on the situation on X: “I really hoped – & was tempted to believe – that Sheffield United’s new owners would be different from many of the rest in the WAY they conducted things. To say I’m now not convinced is an understatement.”

Blades owners would appease the majority of fans if they stick with Chris Wilder

After a decent season, it would be a bold move to look towards a successor for Wilder, especially when it would likely divide the fanbase.

Notching a total of 92 points, but of course finishing on 90 because of the points deduction, is the hallmark of a brilliant Championship season, and the Blades managed it despite spending very little comparatively to the sides around them in the automatic promotion race.

If Wilder were to be let go, the next appointment would be crucial, and promotion must be a certainty. The current Blades boss is unique in terms of his connection with the fanbase – no matter who is brought in, it will be incredibly difficult to replicate that.
