Sheffield Wednesday have been handed another restriction by the EFL and fans are questioning if it will impact Barry Bannan.
Sheffield Wednesday were slapped with a triple transfer embargo by the EFL at the start of July amid missed payments.
The EFL have since removed an embargo after payments to some players and HMRC were settled.
However, the three-window transfer restriction remained in place, meaning the Owls could only sign players on no-fee loans or make free transfers with a wage restriction of £7,000-a-week.
On August 6, though, the EFL have imposed a new restriction and fans are concerned it’s going to impact Barry Bannan.

Latest EFL Sheffield Wednesday restriction sees fans worried about Barry Bannan
Journalist Andy Giddings has reported that ‘that the EFL have imposed further restrictions on Sheffield Wednesday by refusing to register new player contracts, subject to the owner DC providing assurances that he can satisfy the payments.’
The news comes less than a week after Bannan signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract after his previous deal expired at the end of June.
The latest blow delivered by the EFL has led many fans to express concern that it will cause issues with the Scotsman’s deal and that he may not be registered to face Leicester City this weekend.
One fan asked: “Is Bannan a registered player?”
A second responded: “Does this affect Baz or is he already registered?”
Another tweeted: “I presume the BB one has gone through just in time?” with another replying: “I do hope so,” while a fifth speculated: “Apparently not. He can’t play on Sunday if not sorted by Friday midday.”
A sixth wrote: “Please tell me Bazza is already registered,” and a seventh responded: “Does this mean Baz won’t be registered for Sunday?”
What Barry Bannan has said about Sheffield Wednesday crisis
Clarification on whether Bannan will actually be able to feature in the game against the Foxes has not been provided at this time.
Having the midfielder back under contract gave fans a small glimmer of hope during a time of turmoil, which he has spoken about this week.
Bannan has discussed Sheffield Wednesday’s problems and the challenges players have faced recently.
He said: “Since we’ve come back to pre-season our pitches weren’t ready so we were training on Astro turf for a bit, which you know, modern day footballers don’t really get on with Astro turf.
“And then, we went away to St George’s [Park], but we’ve had the under-23s coaches, Andy and Giles Coke, who stepped in when the manager didn’t come back.
“So, on top of not being paid, which isn’t nice, there’s been loads of things as well which from the outside you probably don’t see.”
