Birmingham City fans are all in agreement about their opening day fixture as they begin their ‘promotion campaign’

Birmingham City have found out their fixture list for the 2025/26 Championship season, knowing they will begin their campaign at home to promotion favourites Ipswich Town.

Excitement surrounds The Blues as they look to one of the clubs viewed to have an outside chance at promotion, with the first day of the Championship season being seen as a good opportunity to see where they stand regarding this.

Chris Davies’s side stormed their way to the League One title with a record points tally last season, and there are huge expectations of Birmingham City upon their return to the Championship.

Upon their return to the division, they will host a side also returning to the second tier of English football, with both optimistic of returning to the Premier League.

Birmingham fans have let their opinions be known about the club’s first game of the season.

Ipswich Town will visit St. Andrews for the opening fixture of the 2025/26 Championship season on Friday, August 8.

Fans from Birmingham City have taken to social media to give their thoughts on the Blues hosting the Tractor Boys for their first game of the campaign.

One fan wrote on social media: “Easy win to start our promotion campaign.”

Another fan agreed with this promotion sentiment entirely as they spoke about the final day of the season, as they said: “Promotion party at Fratton Park.”

Turning back to the first day of the season against Ipswich, one fan believed it would be a good test for the Blues, as they said: “That’s a tough first game but will be a great one under the lights to open the season. Probably the best time to be playing Ipswich.  It will be a good benchmark for us too.”

Meanwhile, one fan had foreseen this being the opening day fixture before it was announced, as they said: “Called it at 8am this morning. We’ve been so compared to doing an Ipswich; it was obvious they were going to put us against each other! Let’s set an example with the eyes watching.”

The overall sense is that the Birmingham City fans are excited about the opening day fixture, particularly following their League One campaign last year, excited about being back in the Championship.

Birmingham City 2025/26 Championship Fixtures

While fans are excited about the Championship campaign ahead and their opening day fixture under the lights at St Andrews, Birmingham will know they will need to find consistency across all fixtures to achieve promotion.

Their first five games are tough for the Blues, including trips to two former Premier League champions, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City, along with the opening day against Ipswich.

Meanwhile their three festive fixtures include two home matches against Derby County and Southampton before travelling to Watford on New Year’s Day.

They will end their season with an away trip to Portsmouth, while they will also host Wrexham in the final matches of the season.
