Birmingham City insider predicts ‘busier than usual’ end to the transfer window as further signings detailed

Birmingham City have already been incredibly busy this summer in the transfer window; however, their business does not seem to be nearing an end as they look to strengthen their squad for the long Championship season ahead.

The Blues have had positive news in their links to the signing of former Champions League and Premier League winner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, reported earlier this summer Oxlade-Chamberlain was in talks with a number of clubs in England, and Birmingham City and the Saints were among those notified. The Blues were then reported to be interested in signing him. Now, the Premier League winner has had a major breakthrough in his deal with his current club.

There is a belief that the England international will not be the only player that Birmingham City will be linked with, and there is an expectation that several new faces will join the Chris Davies project at St Andrews.

Former Birmingham City captain hints at further signings

Former Birmingham City captain Martin O’Connor has hinted that Birmingham will be busier than usual in the final days of the transfer window.

The ex-Crystal Palace and Walsall man currently earns a living by managing loan deals at Blues and appeared on BBC WM’s football phone-in this week.

O’Connor admitted he isn’t getting much sleep at the minute as deadline day approaches.

Host Daz Hale asked: “These days for those who don’t know, you are still very much involved at Birmingham City.

You anticipate, like so many people, that it will be a busier than usual end to the market.”

O’Connor replied: “Yeah, I think so. You’re only as good as your last game, and unfortunately, we didn’t play well against Port Vale, and we’re looking to strengthen our squad.

“Our league form has been good, but I think sometimes when you’re at your strongest, you still need to look to improve, and that is what we’re trying to do.”

Chris Davies confirms exits

The Birmingham City manager has confirmed that several players are set to leave the club, with two in particular being George Hall and Alfie Chang.

Both players are on the fringes of Davies’ squad, and Blues are willing to let them pursue first-team football elsewhere as they enter the final 12 months of their contracts at St Andrew’s.

As reported by Birmingham Live, he said: “With Alfie and George, if they want to get regular game time, they would have to go elsewhere.

“They know that. I think that’s pretty obvious, and they are looking at their options and what’s out there. Potentially in the next few days something will happen for them.

“Both are top professionals. I haven’t had one single cross word with either of them; they have been absolutely exemplary every single day.”
