Championship clubs on notice as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain departs Besiktas, Southampton are keeping tabs

Southampton are one of several clubs in England and Scotland keeping an eye on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, EFL Analysis can exclusively confirm.

The Saints are looking to push themselves back to the Premier League this season after they were relegated very early on in 2024/25. Aaron Ramsdale was ‘delighted’ to have avoided Derby County’s record points low, but improvements are needed across the board.

Will Still has been handed the responsibility of taking the Hampshire outfit to promotion, and Southampton have already made big signings.

However, more experience will be needed if Southampton are to finish in the top two and bringing Oxlade-Chamberlain back to St. Mary’s would help.

The former Arsenal and Liverpool man is leaving Turkish side Besiktas where a settlement has been reached on the final year of his contract.

The 31-year-old is now heading back to the UK where we can confirm a host of clubs are showing an interest in securing his services. EFL Analysis understands that Oxlade-Chamberlain has interest from the Premier League as well as Scotland where Rangers would consider making an approach.

However, we are told that Oxlade-Chamberlain would be open to a move to the Championship. Former club Southampton have been made aware of the situation, as have Leicester, Ipswich, Birmingham, Sheffield United, Coventry and Stoke.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be the perfect Saints signing

After a difficult time in Türkiye, a fresh start in the United Kingdom is exactly what the 31-year-old needs to get his career back on track, and Southampton could be the answer.

The Saints, who are interested in Dutch defender Xavier Mbuyamba, are looking to add to various areas of their squad and with the likes of Tyler Dibling potentially leaving, strengthening the midfield will be necessary.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has unfinished business at St. Mary’s, and returning to Southampton to help take them back to the Premier League would be an excellent story. However, if an immediate offer from the top flight does come, he may be swayed.
