Things couldn’t have gone much better for Birmingham City this campaign.

Despite losing out to Peterborough in the EFL trophy, promotion to the Championship has already wrapped for the Blues, with Birmingham’s owners enjoying a very impressive start to life in the West Midlands.

The likes of Jay Stansfield and Alfie May have shone for Chris Davies’ side, but Tom Brady has been also hailed for his impact off the pitch.

Fellow Blues owner Tom Wagner has also played an integral role in the club’s success and hasn’t held back when talking about his ambitions for Birmingham moving forward.

Tom Wagner speaks on Premier League ambition

Having just secured the League One title, it seems like the Blues are not resting on their laurels with Championship clubs ‘fearful’ of Birmingham’s big spending this summer.

Clearly not wanting to settle for Championship mediocrity, Wagner has recently outlined his lofty ambitions for the club.

Speaking on SkySports prior to Birmingham’s EFL trophy final clash with Peterborough, the Blues owner said:

“There’s only one place to go and our ultimate objective is to get to the Premier League.

“I always say if you can’t say it you can’t do it and so our ambition is to get to the Premier League.

“We’ve got to establish a culture of winning, we’ve got to get all the processes in place, we’ve got find the right commercial process and generate the revenue and then we’ve got to get all these fans engaged on a regular basis.

“A lot of things people say we couldn’t do, one was we couldn’t full a 60,000-seater stadium, well we could have filled Wembley if we had the opportunity today, I think that speaks volumes for how big this club is and I think it’s good for English football that big clubs are completing at the highest level.”

Birmingham will be hoping to follow Ipswich blueprint

Birmingham’s owners will no doubt be hoping to replicate the recent feat of Ipswich Town in securing back-to-back promotions to the Premier League.

With only five teams having achieved such a feat in the modern era, it will be no easy task for the Blues to reach English football’s top table at the first time of asking.

Every team to achieve back-to-back promotions to Premier League
Watford (1997-1999)
Manchester City (1998-2000)
Southampton (2010-2012)
Norwich (2009-2011)
Ipswich Town (2022-2024)

Birmingham have been linked with Premier League stars heading into the summer window, something which suggests they are planning to create their own Ipswich fairytale next season. Whether they can actually achieve such a feat though, we will have to wait and see.
