In an EFL Analysis exclusive, we are told Robbie Savage will be very happy this summer as his son looks set for a move to either Birmingham City or Wrexham.
It’s been a fantastic season for both Birmingham and Wrexham so far, and the two clubs look well on course for a fairytale ending to their respective Hollywood stories as we approach the final run-in.
As things stand, both Birmingham and Wrexham can make history, with the Blues likely to achieve the League One record points tally, and the Red Dragons hoping to secure a third-successive promotion.
With both sides set to compete in the Championship next season, transfer plans are already being drawn up, and EFL Analysis has exclusive information on one particular target the two rivals share heading into the summer window.

Birmingham City and Wrexham fighting for Charlie Savage signature
Speaking to TBR Football’s Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, we understand that two of Robbie Savage’s favourite clubs are looking closely at his son Charlie, who currently plays for Reading.
Bailey told us: “Savage senior’s former club Birmingham City and Wrexham – his hometown club – are both watching Savage junior and are prepared to move for him this summer.
“Birmingham know they are playing in the Championship next season and they are ready to compete and push for immediate promotion to the Premier League, which was done recently by Ipswich Town.
“With that they are putting plans in place and Reading midfielder Savage is a player they like. He has been outstanding for Reading since joining from Manchester United in 2023.”
It seems clubs could be ready to take advantage of Reading’s financial issues and prise away one of the Royals’ top talents at the end of the season.
Bailey added: “Reading are wanting to keep Savage, but that could very well be dependent on their own promotion push.”
We also understand Birmingham are not the only suitors for Savage, with Bailey saying: “Wrexham also are huge admirers. Wrexham are also looking towards next season and they will also look to have a healthy budget in the second tier.
“Savage is a player they would like, and given his Wrexham heritage, there is a clear appeal. They are already showing an interest in Tom Lawrence and signing two Welsh internationals with Wrexham connections, would be huge to the club and their fanbase.”
We have previously been told that Birmingham will spend aggressively in the Championship, so they may well hold the advantage financially here. But, perhaps that Welsh pull will be enough to sway Savage.

Charlie Savage’s impressive rise through the EFL continues
Having come through the Manchester United academy, just like his father, Charlie Savage has forged a solid career for himself already.
A brief but impressive loan spell with Forest Green in 2023 saw Savage catch the eye, leading to his permanent move to Reading that summer.
Since then, Savage has racked up 90 appearances for the Royals and counting, and is going to be imperative to their surprise promotion push this season.
If Reading can defy the odds and clinch promotion, there’s every chance they’ll be able to hold onto Savage for another year. But, at this stage, it would seem a big move is in the offing, as Savage takes another massive step in the right direction.
He’s already made his full debut for the Welsh national team, and turning out for a Championship side would certainly give him even more leverage on the international stage.
