Birmingham City are preparing for life in the Championship, and we can exclusively reveal they’ve got one player firmly on their radar, but they’re not alone.
After a 2-1 win over Peterborough United on Tuesday night, Birmingham have now confirmed promotion from League One and are closing in on the title, too.
It’s been a relentless march towards glory for Birmingham this season under Chris Davies, and they’ve still got the Vertu Trophy final to come on Sunday, too.
But, with the step up to the second tier on the way, the Blues are outlining their transfer targets for the summer. And, in an EFL Analysis exclusive, we understand they’ll face quite the fight to get the deal over the line.

Kwame Poku is ‘in talks’ with multiple clubs including Birmingham City
Speaking to TBR Football’s Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, we got the lowdown on the situation regarding Peterborough United’s Kwame Poku after the young winger scored against Birmingham last night.
Bailey told us: “His people are in talks with a number of clubs – and yes, one of them is Birmingham. There are others, though – Crystal Palace, Millwall, Luton and Norwich among them.”
“However, the big danger is Rangers – they want him and have watched him numerous times. Talks have continued but complicated by their takeover and then new manager.”
Poku is out of contract in the summer, but as he is 23-years-old, Peterborough will be due some compensation if and when he moves on. The amount the Posh will receive, though, depends massively on where Poku ends up.
Bailey added: “Obviously Peterborough are desperate for him not to go North of the border as they would lose millions – they would only be due nominal cross-border compensation if he went to Ibrox, as opposed to a few million if he stays in the English Football League.”
We know Birmingham are going to spend aggressively in the summer, and the package they could put together for Poku would surely be an attractive one. Whether it’s enough to stave off interest from the Scottish giants, however, remains to be seen.

Did Kwame Poku just hint at Birmingham switch?
In the game at The Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday, Poku’s goal celebration appeared to hint quite heavily that he at least has some interest in joining Birmingham.
After levelling the scores for Peterborough, the 23-year-old signalled to the travelling Birmingham fans in the away end and pointed to the name on his shirt.
Many suspect this was his way of telling the club to pay attention to him ahead of a potential summer move. Given the information we have on the matter, it’s an odd move by the player, who is still under contract at Peterborough.
Posh chairman, Barry Fry, was speaking to ITV ahead of Tuesday night’s game and even revealed Birmingham are trying to sign one of his players. It would now seem quite obvious that he was referring to Poku.
Fry said: “They’re still after one of mine but they’re going to have to cough up.”
Either way, we’d expect to see Kwame Poku in a blue shirt again next season, but will he be in England’s second city, or up North in Scotland?
